What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shipyard Estimator position at GMD Shipyard Corp.?
The Shipyard Estimator will assist in the preparation of cost estimates for shipyard projects based on the specifications provided by the client. Effective knowledge of ship hull, mechanical and electrical systems required. Relies on judgment and direction to plan and accomplish goals.
- Must analyze bid opportunities, review specifications and revisions for completeness and accuracy, and prepare timely completion of estimates.
- Obtain pricing for materials and estimate cost where predetermined standards are unavailable.
- Cost estimation for growth work and change orders on new and existing projects, including vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Ability to read and translate vessel drawings and piping schematics required.
- Maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and government requirements.
- Participate in all activities of estimating projects including ship checks, to help ensure that goals or objectives of the project are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters.
- Ability to prioritize workload and monitor numerous projects simultaneously.
- Proficiently communicate with engineers, owners, subcontractors and staff.
- Knowledge of ABS and USCG regulations required.
College engineering degree and/or marine engineer license preferred. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in a marine repair/construction setting preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.
Must be proficient in typing and using common office equipment such as copiers, printers, fax machines, scanners and multi-function office machines. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD required, advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Word and Excel is a must. May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to climb stairs and navigate narrow ladderways. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read information. Use of personal protective equipment such as respirators, hard hats and safety footwear is required while on work sites. Work will involve visiting work sites both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year. Salary : $75,000 - $95,000
