What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Processor position at GMI Laboratories?
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
Receives, prepares, and processes all specimens delivered to the laboratory.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient account.
- Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
- Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
- Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes appropriate action.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Capturing client and specimen data electronically.
- Labeling and numbering specimens, and preparing aliquots.
- Centrifuging specimens.
- Preparing specimens to be sent to a reference laboratory.
- Assisting clients and phlebotomists with inquiries pertaining to specimens requirements and test turnaround times.
- Complying with applicable laws and regulations, and company procedures and policies.
Minimum Processor Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
- Previous experience in clinical laboratory or related work environment preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
- Proficient typing and data entry skills.
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Outstanding organizational skills.
- Ability to perform to high level of accuracy.
- Ability to handle biological materials.
- Dexterous, and able to handle toxic and caustic chemicals safely.
- Resilient to allergens such as fumes.
