Job Overview
The Deposit Specialist is responsible for opening and managing new and existing deposit accounts. The Deposit Specialist is the customer’s primary point of contact, providing guidance with account inquiries, deposit transactions, and deposit product information, while ensuring compliance with banking regulations, maintaining compliance with internal controls, and ensuring the physical security of the branch.
Responsibilities
The following tasks are fundamental to the position and necessary for its successful execution:
- Reinforces the consistent application of superior customer service by setting a strong example; following through with customer inquiries via phone, email and in-person, addressing questions regarding accounts, transactions and deposit account services.
- Accurately and efficiently assists consumer and commercial customers with requests to open a new deposit account, make changes to an existing deposit account or close an existing deposit account; including demand deposit accounts, time deposit accounts and safe deposit boxes.
- Manages and ensures accuracy in assisting customers with account change requests on existing deposit accounts including payable on death designations, establishing and updating trusts, and handling individual retirement accounts (IRAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs).
- Maintains knowledge of deposit products and services and is able to provide enhanced customer service including customer information changes, digital banking support, debit card support, electronic transfer inquiries, etc.
- Ensures accurate completion of internal operational reports and those generated by the Bank’s data processor. Regularly reviews reports to maintain accuracy and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Consistently applies sound decision-making techniques when handling inquiries, approvals, and requests within assigned approval limits.
- Adheres to compliance with internal controls, physical security protocols, and non-loan policies and procedures. Consistently demonstrates ethical behavior, upholding the Bank’s values, and inspiring the trust of others through personal actions.
Experience

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, Bank operational policies and procedures, and the Bank's products and services.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements related data security and fraud prevention.
- Problem-solving skills, utilizing knowledge of policies and procedures to determine resolution.
- Experience and proficiency using Microsoft 365 and/or Microsoft Office product suite.
- Organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with minimal or no supervision while performing duties.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong work ethic that supports a willingness to handle multiple tasks with efficiency and accuracy.
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others.
- Ability to handle complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
