Job Title: Scragg Saw Operator
Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Scragg Saw Operator to operate and maintain scragg sawmill equipment for processing logs into usable lumber. The ideal candidate will have experience with sawmill operations, an understanding of wood processing techniques, and a strong focus on safety and efficiency. This is a key operator position in the mill.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate scragg saw systems to cut logs into cants and lumber according to specifications.
- Adjust saw settings to optimize yield, efficiency, and quality.
- Monitor production to ensure accuracy, consistency, and minimal waste.
- Perform routine maintenance, blade changes, and troubleshooting of the scragg saw.
- Inspect logs and finished products to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Work closely with other sawmill personnel to maintain workflow and meet production goals.
- Follow all workplace safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Radio communication with supervisors and other key personnel is required.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating a scragg saw or similar sawmill machinery preferred.
- Knowledge of wood species, grain patterns, and sawing techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret production specifications and measurement tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform equipment maintenance.
- Physical stamina to lift, push, and handle logs and lumber in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to safety procedures and best practices in a sawmill setting.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a sawmill setting with exposure to loud noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- A mix of sitting and standing. Some lighting to support other operators.
- Use of protective gear, such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection, is required.
