Job Description
Job Title: Sports Director FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Superintendent / CEO
POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops, organizes and implements high quality Youth and Adult Sports, Facility Scheduling, and the Connect/Ambassadors Program for the betterment of the McPherson Family YMCA and McPherson Recreation Commission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
A. Administration
1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions
2. Recruit, employ, train, and supervise necessary personnel for Youth Sports and Adult Sports including Part-Time Assistant, Umpires, Officials, other Program Staff and Volunteer Coaches.
3. Communicates closely with the other Program Directors.
4. Prepares program budgets for approval.
5. Develop and update coaches, and staff training materials.
6. Coordinates facility usage for MRC and USD 418 facilities for programs.
7. Answer all the daily calls and handles appropriately, while promoting a positive public image of the YMCA / MRC.
8. Order supplies, equipment, staff apparel, and maintain proper inventory.
9. Compiles monthly reports for YMCA / MRC Board meetings, as directed.
10. Assures quality programs through proper training and constant evaluation processes.
11. Assist with Program / Membership Committee.
12. Help with overall facility.
13. Responsible for making sure staff nights and weekend on call is covered.
14. Monitor, maintain, and record accurate payroll information to assure that employees are paid in accordance with adopted wage notes.
15. Establish positive relationships with Colleges, School District, City of McPherson, and Civic Groups to allow for maximum program exposure.
16. Develop a sports committee for each sport to assist in the enhancement of on going changes.
17. Expose and promote all programming opportunities for participants through efficient and timely use of all community media resources. This includes flyers, radio, facebook, twitter, newspaper, brochures, & public speaking.
18. Monitor on-going programs by interacting with staff, volunteers and participants, and evaluate activities in progress.
19. Maintain constant communication with the front desk to provide program information needed to maximize participant experience.
20. Plan and coordinate all programming responsibilities in a fashion that allows ample time for dissemination of information to all possible participants.
21. Set deadlines enough in advance to allow a minimum of three weeks practice time prior to first game.
22. Continually seek opportunities for program and activity subsidization through business or civic group sponsorship grant acquisitions or fund raising.
23. Play an active role in the YMCA Annual Sustaining Campaign.
24. Maintain knowledge of YMCA / MRC philosophy, youth and adult programming, public relations, budgeting, certifications, marketing, and brochure / newsletter design.
25. Availability to work long and non-conventional hours and schedules as needed.
26. Provide excellent communications, both oral and written to effectively answer and serve the public’s questions and needs.
27. Create and implement program information through continual evaluations both oral and written.
28. Maintain current knowledge of recreation philosophy, programming, public relations, budgeting, accounting, billing, marketing, brochure / newsletter / flyer design.
29. Responsible for all incident / accident / ejection reports and all related follow up.
B. Programming
1. Responsible for the delivery of sports programming to the community.
2. Scheduling of sports programs.
3. Responsible for team rosters.
4. Special event scheduling / organizing.
5. Maintain visibility and interaction towards members and program participants.
6. Administer programs and new ideas relating to sports to the community
7. Coordinates facility usage for MRC and USD 418 facilities for programs
8. Monitor on-going programs to interact with staff, volunteers and participants, and to evaluate activities in progress.
9. Responsible for updating assigned areas of Web Site
C. Training
1. Provide staff with current rules and training.
2. Develop and conduct regularly coach and official training.
3. Develop and implement In-House Training System, monitor and keep records.
4. Assist in Association trainings and meetings as requested.
5. No employee / volunteer can begin work until employee file and or background check is complete and approved by Business Office.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.
2. One to two years related experience preferred.
3. Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: CPR; First Aid; AED.
4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
5. Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
6. Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
