Job Summary:
Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the performance of the duties of your licensed level within Gold Cross EMS, including operation of an emergency vehicle, and performs related work as required. Responsible for medical treatment and stabilization of all patients using definitive techniques, under the direction of a physician, in accordance with state EMS policies, scope of practice, current approved Gold Cross EMS protocols, and professional codes of conduct and services.

Essential Job Function:
- Shall have a thorough knowledge of Gold Cross EMS patient care protocols, including how and when they may be utilized. Shall be responsible for medical treatment and stabilization of all patients using definitive techniques, under direction of a physician, in accordance with current approved Gold Cross EMS protocols to their appropriate scope of practice.
- Shall be responsible for a thorough knowledge of GCEMS territory, street names, and number system of streets. Shall have a thorough knowledge of the location of hospitals and emergency departments in the service area. Shall have a thorough knowledge of navigation using maps and/or a computerized mapping system.
- Shall be responsible for knowledge of medical codes and pertinent GCEMS radio signals and procedures.
- Shall be responsible for maintaining thorough up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of emergency medicine relative to pre-hospital treatment or medical emergencies through independent study. Shall be required to conduct or participate in all educational classes as needed.
- Shall be responsible as a team member for ensuring the unit, all drugs, IV fluids, supplies, and equipment are properly inventoried and accounted for according to current policy and procedure.
- Will share responsibility for the condition and maintenance of the EMS unit and equipment, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are in order at the beginning of the shift and reporting any deficiencies in the daily unit check-off and to the Field Supervisor on duty. In addition, shall keep abreast of any changes of status, conditions, or operational procedure of the unit or equipment.
- Arriving on scene of a medical emergency, the EMT shall take command of said medical emergency to the appropriate scope of practice for level held in the event a GCEMS officer or Paramedic is not on scene. If a GCEMS officer is on scene, the EMT shall report to said officer for instructions. If a GCEMS officer arrives on scene after the EMT has established command of the medical emergency, they shall report to said officer and present the officer with an up-to-date account of actions that have taken place.
- Shall work as a team, striving to perform all duties in a spirit of partnership. The position of driver and technician can be rotated, but the care is dictated by the higher-level provider, and advance level care will be performed and continued by the CT or Paramedic. All duties will carry shared responsibility.
- When responding to an emergency as EVO, the EMT shall drive in a safe and appropriate manner, with Due Regard, consistent with the training and guidelines established in the EMS emergency vehicle operations course.
- Shall comply with all applicable departmental and company policies, procedures, directives, and protocols.
Other Job Functions:
- Will assist as required by departmental needs with other tasks as assigned by the on-duty Field Supervisor, or other Administrative Officer.
- Will assist with logistics and/or maintenance duties as departmental needs dictate.
- Shall be responsible for participating in EMS duties for overall cleanliness and general maintenance to include office, station, parking lot, unit, and equipment as directed by daily duties, the on-duty Field Supervisor, or other Administrative Officer.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have a current driver's license.
- Must provide a current Motor Vehicle Report and meet the current driver standards set by the company’s insurance provider.
- Must have current State of Georgia EMT-R, EMT, EMT-Intermediate, or Advanced EMT certification or current South Carolina EMT or Advanced EMT certification with National Registry certification.
- Must have current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
- One year experience as EMT provider is preferred.
