The Accounting Director will focus on keeping our finances positioned for success, while having an ongoing, day-to-day impact on the company operations, helping to strategize and grow our fiscal health.
This seasoned strategist not only will understand current accounting practices and trends but also will have experience creating and allocating budgets and adapting to change, whether it’s through growth or downsizing. As a member of senior management, the Accounting Director will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.
Major Responsibilities
Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategyCoordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, as well as reporting for the sameProvide comprehensive financial updates on business performance to ownership and senior managers by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data pointsDevelop, implement, and maintain financial controls, guiding financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscapeMaintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expendituresMaximize payroll, benefit, and recruitment efficiency through innovative process development with the HR DirectorHelp develop and support short- and long-term operational strategiesEnsure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organizationEstablish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a biweekly, monthly, and annual basisComply with federal, state, and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate actionFile quarterly and annual taxes as required by federal, state, and local lawsResearch revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancementPerform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structureHire, train, and manage personnel in the billing and accounting departments, including collections, and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities (ex : Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, state attorneys general)Attend regularly scheduled conference calls, meetings, and events as requested by ownershipQualifications & Requirements
At least five (5) years, ten (10) preferred, of experience in accounting management (Controller, Director, Accountant, etc.) required; experience in the fitness industry is a plusBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Master’s Degree preferred Professional certification (ex. Certified Public Accountant)Multi-unit location experience requiredStrong understanding of banking processes, reconciliation, and financial data analysisWorking knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reportingExcellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrityExceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skillsUnderstanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planningMust have excellent project coordination, organization, interpersonal and time management skillsStrong computer skills and attention to detail required
