Job Summary:
The Formulations Nutritionist is responsible for supervising and maintaining the integrity of product formulations, feed tags, mixed feed margins and historical data for all of Gold Star Feed & Grain. Excellent communications and attention to detail are crucial.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Closely coordinates with sales and private nutritionist and GM to manage local formulation in the following areas: >Formula maintenance, additions, modifications and deletions, Tag maintenance.
- Manages and maintains contract ingredient specs and pricing.
- Maintains all costs monthly.
- Determines cost formulation of “house” formulas and coordinates mixed feeds into production procedures.
- Responsible for developing daily pricing for sack and bulk, doing daily inventory and rail receiving. Monitors and runs gross margins reports and expense reports.
- Coordinates with the Mixed Feed Purchasing to monitor average daily usage of individual formulation ingredients.
- Coordinates with Operations to capture “best value” for returned feeds and reruns in formulation.
- Coordinates with the GM in implementing monthly formula ingredient pricing and margin management and inventory control.
- Facilitate ingredients substitutions when needed.
- Develop new procedures for keeping track of customers’ patterns as well as formulation changes monitoring.
- Support the outside nutrition staff in developing a new customer base.
- Maintaining close contact with customers to keep customer contracts in formulas current.
- Coordinates with operations and purchasing teams on least-costing for inventories at plants
- Comply with the companies Safety and Health policies as listed in the Employee Handbook
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition, or a related field required.
- Masters degree in Ruminant Nutrition with extensive dairy nutrition, herd health and application experience preferred.
- Successful candidate will have dairy industry/marketplace knowledge and strong agricultural business aptitude.
- 2-4 years’ experience in formulation preferred.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong customer service commitment.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with the ability to effectively train staff members, customers, and sales/nutrition representatives.
- Must have superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, and follow up is required.
Physical Demands

· Ability to travel within the United States.
Salary : $85,000 - $115,000
