Under the direction of the Director of Tram Ops & Facilities Manager, is responsible for the supervision of all phases of tramway maintenance activity and the performance of journeyman level electrical and / or mechanical work.
Responsibilities
JOB DUTIES
- After considering internal and external factors on a daily basis, determines whether to proceed with the tramway operation; is constantly monitoring factors affecting the safe and efficient operation of the tramway cars and the control center.
- Responsible for ensuring that the lift is operational for public transport during scheduled hours, and that all required maintenance and work is performed by staff and / or contractors in accordance with state and local operational codes, ANSI B-77 code and manufacturer's specifications.
- Ensures that maintenance personnel are available at all times during operation to the public of the tramway.
- Supervises the maintenance and repair work performed on the lift by subordinates and contractors, after troubleshooting and determining exactly what corrective work, methods, resources and budget are needed.
- Makes staff assignments; schedules staff work, takes into consideration ongoing operational needs, availability of staff, equipment, parts, etc.; checks quality of work performed, guides (and sometimes trains) work crew to project completion.
- Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance program and schedule for all tramway structures and systems; expedites all materials needed to do preventative maintenance or repairs.
- Manages and records the training of staff in standby operations, generator operations and rescue car lift evacuations; participates in emergency lift evacuation upon notification by the General Manager or Director of Tram Ops & Facilities Manager.
- Ensures that safety measures and equipment (i.e. harnesses, helmet, etc.) are taken / used at all times, especially when staff climb towers or ride on top of tram cars.
- Performs journey level electrical and / or mechanical work which includes troubleshooting, disassembling, repairing or rebuilding mechanical components or electrical systems; uses and supervises the use of tools per manufacturers' instructions and specifications.
- Is authorized to close the tramway operations due to adverse weather or operational conditions.
- Is authorized to deny tramway access to any person who is considered not fit, competent or dangerous to himself, others or to equipment.
- Assumes responsibilities of Director of Tram Ops & Facilities Manager during his / her absences.
- Ensures that subordinates are trained (including in emergency rope evacuation), equipped and fit to perform their duties. Constantly emphasizes the importance of customer service; monitors staff's provision of the same, correcting weaknesses or problems. Must ensure that all timecards or pay sheets are reviewed, signed, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Periodically reviews the operator's manual with each new and returning employee; records all training per the ANSI code. During operating hours, ensures the availability of at least one trained employee onsite to administer first aid.
- Expected to become familiar with all tram systems and normal operations. Performs basic trouble shooting of tram systems and records faults and bypasses per ANSI code.
- When necessary due to personnel understaffing, unexpected absences, or emergencies, may perform the duties of a Tram Operator or Tram Attendant; on call during the regular tram operating season and will assist the General Manager when needed.
- Enforces operational and safety rules; keeps General Manager informed at all times regarding a condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation; monitors that all signs in the ramp area, safety equipment and rope evacuation equipment are in place.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
