Summary:
The Research Veterinarian provides veterinary oversight, clinical care, and regulatory compliance support for laboratory animals used in biomedical research. This role ensures the humane treatment and welfare of animals while assisting research teams in designing and conducting studies in accordance with ethical and regulatory standards. The veterinarian will collaborate with investigators, animal care staff, and compliance personnel to uphold high-quality veterinary care and contribute to scientific advancements.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure compliance with animal care and welfare regulations
- Provide veterinary care and oversight of surgical procedures
- Participate in IACUC activities and compliance monitoring
- Train investigators and research personnel
- Oversee disease surveillance, prevention, and treatment
- Develop and maintain SOPs in line with regulatory guidelines
- Provide emergency veterinary consultations on-call
Qualifications
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Expertise in animal welfare, veterinary care, and disease management
- Strong knowledge of AAALAC International accreditation requirements
- Compliance with IACUC regulations and protocol review
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
- American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) Certification
- Experience in training research personnel
- Ability to pass a employment background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience overseeing a pre-clinical research laboratory in a supervisory or management role
Pay and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $195,000 annually.
