Summary:
The Veterinary Technical Lead - Behavior Management will provide expert behavioral technical support for nonhuman primates and other species. This role involves coordinating daily behavioral work, performing assessments, and ensuring proper animal enrichment and care while adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as behavior subject matter expert and provide behavioral technical support.
- Perform non-supervisory behavioral work alongside other contractor employees.
- Coordinate technical support for daily behavioral and enrichment assignments across various containment levels.
- Assess nonhuman primate pair stability and conduct detailed assessments of nonhuman primates, rabbits, and pigs.
- Coordinate weekly food enrichment requests from multiple sections.
- Pair macaques and other nonhuman primate species and pigs as needed.
- Review and modify SOPs to ensure state-of-the-art enrichment for all species.
- Operate medical and research equipment to ensure animal safety and proper handling.
- Perform standard veterinary procedures without assistance, including surgical site preparation and administration of medications.
- Assist in surgical procedures and manage collecting and submitting biological samples.
- Review behavioral and enrichment schedules and provide daily oversight in coordination with TPOCs and NCOIC.
- Manage logistical tasks, including inventory maintenance and reporting discrepancies.
- Monitor medical equipment maintenance dates and provide animal behavior management training.
- Enter ABSL-3 and ABSL-4 areas to perform duties as authorized.
- Clean and decontaminate working areas and equipment according to SOPs.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficient in pairing Macaques in a research setting and assessing pair stability.
- Proficient in performing detailed nonhuman primate behavior assessments.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- LAT certification or higher level of certification required within six months of starting work.
- Minimum three years of technical experience in a research setting with nonhuman primate social housing, preferably Macaques.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in animal technical care and support for Macaques and African Green monkeys.
- Experience with Good Laboratory Practice.
Pay and Benefits
The hourly range for the position is $14 to $24.
