Summary:
The Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians in providing medical and surgical care for research animals.
Schedule: Primarily 0700-1530, with flexibility for research requirements and emergency care.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist with animal procedures, anesthesia, and post-operative care
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Ensure compliance with laboratory animal care standards
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Animal handling, surgical assistance, anesthetic monitoring, medication administration, medical record keeping
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology or related field
- At least 1-5 years of experience (varies by level)
- Must meet all requirements for CS-PRP and BPRP to access ABSL-3 and ABSL-4 containment areas. T3 investigation (NACLC/ANACI is acceptable if completed within 5 years prior to enrollment). A favorably adjudicated SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified, is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years in laboratory animal care experience
- AALAS certifications preferred
The hourly range for this position is $14.00-$26.00.
