DESCRIPTION :
Under general direction, supervises, directs, reviews, and coordinates the work of Bus Operators. Responds to all radio codes where a supervisory presence is needed. Prepares Operations reports in order to provide information required by District administration, federal, state and county agencies.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS :
This is an exempt, first-level supervisory classification. An incumbent in this classification performs responsible supervisory work of a highly technical and complex nature. Requires the exercise of independent judgment, initiative and discretion based upon knowledge of District, federal and state regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and / or District administrative policies and procedures in performing daily activities related to transit bus operations. Work assigned to this position involves the application of knowledge and abilities in supervisory / management skills as well as customer service skills and de-escalation of complex interactions with the public. An incumbent is responsible for exercising the day-to-day supervision over Bus Operator staff and, on occasion, additional departmental responsibilities as agency needs dictate. The incumbent works with minimal oversight and exercises discretion in the performance of routine work tasks and achievement of desired department and District results and adherence to policies and procedures related to bus transit operations.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED :
This classification reports to the Lead Transportation Supervisor, Operations Manager and the Director of Operations. This classification supervises the classification of Bus Operators and may provide instruction / direction to Dispatch staff. This classification is distinguished from the Lead Transportation Supervisor in that the latter has greater overall responsibility for assigned daily transit operations.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND / OR EXPERIENCE :
One (1) to Two (2) years of lead and / or supervisory experience, preferred.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL TASKS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
Work involves both office environments as well as external environments. There is a frequent need to sit, to drive automobiles and buses, while training Bus Operators, and while performing some clerical duties as well as frequent need to stand, to walk and occasional need to lift objects up to 50 pounds. Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate effort and may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials of light to moderate weight (35-50pounds). There is frequent need to stand, sit, stoop, walk, and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Regular use of computer monitor and keyboard required.
Sit to operate the computer, and have telephone conversations as well as to drive both commercial and non-commercial vehicles. Stand to provide training, course instruction, or interact with customers. Walk to move from one office to another or in-between buses. Squat to retrieve stored materials, or do inspections or investigate an accident. Twist upperbody when depositing and retrieving files, when working at the desk and when out on the road. Use pens and pencils to write-lift, grasp, push. Operate the computer while reading written information. Use a computer / keyboard to produce written materials-push keys. Use a copy machine to copy documents. Bend at the waist while lifting materials. Squats to repair fareboxes may frequently crouch and / or stoop. Talk on the telephone while taking notes or while working on the computer. Work indoors to operate computer, use telephone and perform office and administrative functions. Work outdoors in inclement weather and extreme temperatures (above 100 degrees and / or below 40 degrees) in order to communicate with customers and Bus operators, and to check bus routes and time point locations. Exposure to fumes / odors when working near automobiles and buses. Risks involve minimal exposure to diesel fumes resulting in possible respiratory discomfort.
