Pipeline Gas Controller

Job Summary / Purpose:

Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture of Qatar Energy & ExxonMobil, has an exciting opportunity in at our Sabine Pass, TX location (approximately 10 minutes from Port Arthur, TX). We are looking for team members that have a proven track record of providing support, have strong intrapersonal and communication skills, and are self-motivated and self-directed to be a part of our transformation from an import facility to the premier LNG exporter in North America.

As part of Golden Pass LNG’s mission to become a premier LNG exporter in North America, the Gas Controller plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the pipeline and associated compressor stations. The position encompasses responsibilities in overseeing pipeline operations, coordinating gas nominations, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring effective team performance. This role demands a high level of technical expertise, leadership, and operational knowledge within a pipeline environment.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

• Safety, Security, Health, and Environment (SSHE):
  • Ensure that all process safety, security, health, and environmental requirements are met prior to and during each shift.
  • Demonstrate leadership in promoting a culture of safety, ensuring "Nobody Gets Hurt" through adherence to safety tools and behaviors.
  • Actively participate in hazard identification and risk mitigation to improve asset safety.
• Operational Control:
  • Responsible for the safe, efficient operation of Golden Pass Pipeline and Compression equipment, ensuring compliance with PHMSA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Operate the pipeline, monitor gas compression systems, and coordinate daily gas nominations with gas supply and interconnecting pipeline operators.
  • Monitor and adjust pipeline parameters such as pressure, flow rates, and temperature to ensure safe and on-spec product delivery into the plant and interconnecting pipeline facilities.
• System and Equipment Monitoring:
  • Utilize control room systems (e.g., Delta-V, PI Vision, Proscient, SAP, j5, leak detection) to monitor and control pipeline equipment and performance.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis of system and equipment issues, ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Ensure the execution of preventive maintenance (PMs) and support mechanical, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Shift Handover and Coordination:
  • Actively participate in daily shift meetings and handovers, ensuring a seamless transition of operations and priorities.
  • Provide clear and concise communication with all stakeholders, including pipeline supply companies, delivery interconnecting parties, Golden Pass Plant Operations, and internal teams.
  • Document all operational changes, incidents, and maintenance activities to maintain an accurate logbook.

Training, Development, and Mentorship:

• • Assist in the training and development of team members, ensuring compliance with Operator Training Simulator (OTS), On-the-Job Training (OJT), and Operator Qualifications (OQ).
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, providing feedback to enhance team performance and technical knowledge.
• Emergency Response and Contingency Planning:
  • Participate in emergency response activities as required, ensuring safe and effective action during abnormal situations.
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency response contingency plans, ensuring preparedness for incidents.
• Compliance and Documentation:
  • Complete monthly process safety verification and measurement tasks, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and company policies.
  • Maintain and update operating procedures, alarm responses, and other related documentation.
  • Support the development of role-specific procedures and work aids, ensuring they are effectively implemented and understood by affected personnel.
• Leadership and Business Unit Support:
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to ensure high standards of work quality, performance, and safety within the control room and field teams.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, and Supervisory teams to plan and execute routine and non-routine maintenance activities.
• Regulatory and Technical Knowledge:
  • Stay current on pipeline operations, regulatory requirements, and safety standards, ensuring compliance with DOT, PHMSA, and Golden Pass policies.
  • Proactively identify areas for optimization in pipeline control and machinery operations, driving continuous improvement.

Scope of Responsibility:

• Operational Excellence:
  • Ensure pipeline equipment and systems operate safely and efficiently, maintaining full compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Effectively communicate with external stakeholders, including interconnecting pipeline operators and gas suppliers, to ensure operational needs are met.

Essential Duties/Functions:

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; additional technical certifications or training in gas pipeline operations preferred.
• Experience: 5 years of experience in natural gas pipeline operations, including control room management, compressor stations, and pipeline systems.
• Skills and Abilities:
  • High level of technical expertise in gas transmission systems, including compression and condensate management.
  • Proficient in using pipeline control systems (Delta-V, PI Vision, SAP, Proscient, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards (PHMSA, DOT).

Certifications:

• Maintain or ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
• Valid State-issued Driver’s License.
• Required to maintain DOT qualifications as per PHMSA standards.

Working Conditions:

• 12-hour Shift work with rotating schedules; occasional call out is expected.
• Control room operator with occasional field work for site visits.

Physical Requirements:

• Climbing, standing, walking, kneeling, and driving as needed.
