POSITION SUMMARY:
To properly and safely set up and operate packaging machines while maintaining proper quality of box production.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to safety, food safety, quality and legal compliance.
- Perform all work in accordance with environmental, health and safety standards, rules, regulations and practices of the facility.
- Must be able to pass training/certifications as required for qualification.
- Must be able to operate box machine and bagger machine for various sized boxes including 10-1 and 4-1.
- Must be able to differentiate and verify correct boxes and ends, set up and change mandrill to run different size boxes in a timely manner while making process adjustments to machine to optimize box production.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and correct minor mechanical issues.
- Must be able to use pallet jack to move supplies.
- Must ensure the glue pots are filled and set at prescribed degrees Fahrenheit.
- Must be able to load rolls of bags, adjust machine for proper bag length, change knives, adjust and keep machine running.
- Must be able to clean glue stops using prescribing method.
- Packaging materials must be inspected and inventoried. Bad boxes must be counted and returned to the supplier.
- Ability to change the “use thru” code date daily referencing a chart near the taper.
- Must be able to properly clean, and sanitize all box machine areas.
- Document completed work as required by the supervisor.
- Compliance with all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
-None.
PHYSICAL AND VISUAL ACTIVITIES:
- Lifting/loading and gripping/grasping box parts.
- Reaching horizontally and vertically to load boxes.
- Maintaining glue pots.
- Ability to differentiate items of color, up close and in the distance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment and/or clothing.
- Stand/walk 7 or more hours per day.
- Constant twist/turn and talk/hear throughout the day.
- Frequently bend, reach, and grip/grasp.
- Frequently use eye/hand and eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Frequently lift 5 lbs from floor to 4 feet and carry 5 lbs up to 25 feet.
- Occasionally squat and climb.
- Occasionally use fine motor tasks, handle/finger and taste/smell.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs from floor to 4 feet.
- Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs with another person from floor to knee height and carry up to 3 feet.
- Occasionally carry 25 lbs up to 15 feet.
- Occasionally carry 50 lbs up to 50 feet.
- Push pallets requiring 50 lbs of force 50 feet.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS:
- Constant work in damp, wet, and slippery environments.
- Constantly work near moving equipment.
- Constantly work in high noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- Frequently work with toxic or caustic chemicals or machines with fumes or airborne debris.
- Frequently work in extreme heat/cold (40-45 degrees).
MACHINES/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE
- Bump cap, hair net, safety glasses, hearing protection, and smock.
- Rubber and cotton gloves.
- Small hand tools.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to use effective problem solving skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to use mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in accordance with production paperwork.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
