What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Tech Paraeducator position at Goldendale High School?
Reports To: Building Principal
Job Goal: Support staff and students by providing skills and assistance in using print and technology resources of the library media ceter. Encourage students o read. Portray a positive image for the school.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate's degree OR 48 semester/72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university OR passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Assessment. ParaPro Assessment must be completed within 90 days of employment.
- Ability to work with students.
- Willingness to continue education as opportunities provided through the school.
- Experience with working with students and knowledge of student management techniques.
- Knowledge of library management.
- Demonstrate ability to use a variety of technology, including computerized catalog and circulation system, document camera and projector.
- Good communication skills.
- Must be patient, compassionate and persistent.
- Must pass physical.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Present library skills in critical thinking, information processing and emerging technologies to classes.
- Complete the Fundamental Course of Study (28 hours of continuous training, provided by the District) within first year of employment.
- Schedule research classes when requested.
- Demonstrate ability to use a variety of technology, including computerized catalog and circulation system.
- Manage student book checkout and shelve returns using the computerized catalog and circulation system.
- Prepare an inventory using the computerized system.
- Assist in training staff in existing and new technology.
- Promote literature appreciation and the importance of reading by assisting students and staff with library materials. Visit classrooms for library involvement.
- Promote and support any computerized curriculum programs.
- Provide computerized testing coordination as assigned.
- Communicate with staff, students and parents using letters, memos and schedules.
- Stay informed of school curriculum to provide library support and work cooperatively with other teachers to develop useful and necessary library ideas.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
- Process and file all magazines, books and library supplies.
- Repair library books as needed.
- Create an inviting and stimulating physical environment that encourages students to come into the library and use the resources within the library.
- Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment:
- 191 work days with paid holidays outlined in the PSE bargaining agreement
- Hours: 7 per day, Monday-Friday

- House Bill 1115 requires all paraeducators to meet common statewide standards. To meet these standards, you must be at least eighteen years old and hold a High School Diploma or its equivalent; and have passed the education testing service assessment for a paraeducator. Exemptions to the paraeducator test is that you hold an associate's degree; have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits in high education. You will be conditionally hired pending meeting one of the requirements listed, within 90 days of employment. Testing information will be provided.
