Position Overview:
A well-established, full service law firm in Brevard County, Florida, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Criminal Defense Paralegal to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Florida State Court procedures and demonstrate a proven ability to manage a high-volume caseload. This role requires a professional individual who can effectively juggle multiple tasks, maintain strict confidentiality, and provide exceptional support to attorneys and clients.
Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Assist attorneys in all phases of criminal defense cases, including DUIs, major felonies, and misdemeanors.
- Prepare and file legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and discovery requests, in accordance with Florida Rules of Criminal Procedure.
- Organize and maintain case files, both physical and electronic, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information to support case preparation.
- Manage and track discovery materials, ensuring timely exchange and review.
Court and Calendar Management:
- Maintain attorney calendars, scheduling hearings, depositions, and other court appearances.
- Coordinate with court personnel, opposing counsel, and clients to schedule appointments and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely filing of documents.
Client Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and court personnel providing clear and compassionate communication.
- Answer client inquiries and provide updates on case status.
- Schedule client meetings and interviews.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
Office Administration:
- Serve as office receptionist, answering phones, greeting clients, and managing incoming mail.
- Assist with general office tasks, including filing, copying, and scanning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must reside in Brevard County, Florida.
- Minimum of 2 years of paralegal experience in a criminal law office setting preferred.
- Strong understanding of Florida state court procedures and criminal law.
- Experience handling DUIs, major felonies, and misdemeanors.
- Proficiency in legal research and writing.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with case management software is a plus (MyCase).
- Bilingualism is a plus.
