What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher/Router position at GOLDSTAR TRANSIT?
The Dispatcher/ Routing Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the daily coverage for routes and field trips, addressing driver concerns, and altering routes as needed, answer telephone calls from our customers and the public, communicating changes and instructions to drivers.
Specific Duties:
1. Ensure employees take their scheduled routes, complete and file daily route paperwork.
2. Assist in facilitating, tracking, and managing driver hours on assignments.
3. Report concerns, violations or issues to the Terminal Manager
4. Ensure all vehicles are staffed for the day.
5. Assigns substitute drivers, as needed.
6. Plans, schedules, and assigns drivers for special transportation including field trips, athletic events, etc.
7. Assists in developing routes, busloads, bus stops and schedules.
8. Would assist, plan, schedule, and coordinate outside public charters.
9. Answers telephone inquiries and communicates on two-way radio, as needed.
10. Maintain records of mileage, gas consumption, and other related data.
11. Assist the training department in ensuring employees perform the required daily vehicle inspection and buses are cleaned daily as required by law.
12. Assist the shop in scheduling maintenance and repair of vehicles, coding invoices and record keeping.
13. Be on-call for emergencies and weekends as needed.
14. Drive a bus as needed.
15. Work closely with the Terminal Manger, the Training Department, and the Shop personnel.
16. Performs other duties as assigned by General Manager
17. Develop, implement, and maintain routing with computerized software
18. Transfer geographical data, prepare maps, programs, and related graphical media.
19. Develop optimization strategies using various GPS programs designed to ensure our customers are serviced in a highly effective and efficient manner.
20. Provide routing process improvement recommendations to your Supervisor/Manager: Recommend specific changes to help increase productivity and efficiency; Create, edit, correct, and delete routes as well as Observe and track route timing, as well as provide customer route updates and billing information to finance department.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:
Familiarity with the laws, regulations and policies governing student transportation; ability to read a map, to coordinate and schedule bus routes in a logical manner; ability to deal tactfully and effectively with employees and our customers; good judgment, ability to make sound decisions; knowledge of computers, clerical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with duties; Familiar with the school district, school locations, general knowledge of the routes and stops; and field trip destinations.
Minimum qualifications: High school diploma, clerical skills, strong computer skills, Wisconsin school bus license with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a school bus driver preferred or willing & able to obtain a CDL with all required endorsements to drive a school bus no later than 6 months from date of hire.
