The purpose of the OSP Design Engineer I position is to utilize GIS mapping systems to accurately design and represent Fiber to the Premise (FTTP), Copper Telephony Systems, HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) Cable Nodes, & Outside Plant (OSP) networks and architecture types. Under the supervision of the Lead Engineer, prepare construction and installation drawings and estimates equipment, labor and material costs. The location of this position is flexible therefore could be based out of one of three offices: Blountsville, AL; Pilot Grove, MO; or New Gloucester, ME.
Essential Job Functions:
Work with Otelco Engineering & Mapping and review current OSP designs to understand current principles and practices.
Prepares cost estimates and material requirements for projects, assists in project financials, and performs overall review at time of project close.
Perform project QC for Outside Plant Infrastructure in Fiber-to-the-Premise, Copper/DSL Telephony, and Hybrid Fiber Coax systems utilizing As-Built drawings.
Utilize GIS software to design the deployment of FTTP, Copper DSL, & HFC networks.
Work with OSP Engineers to prepare and maintain detailed assignment documents for fiber projects.
Prepares permits related to ROW, Railroad, and DOT requirements.
Must have valid driver’s license and meet company insurability requirements.
Performs all other related duties as assigned by management. *
A minimum of 1 years’ experience with GIS/CAD software. ESRI experience desired, Mapwise experience a plus.
Experience with Google Maps/Earth, Adobe Acrobat, 3GIS, or other GIS related programs essential to Design Engineering.
A minimum of 1 years’ experience in Outside Plant Engineering Design, Aerial and Underground applications.
Basic knowledge of outside plant engineering, general Telecom construction practices, and field design methods.
Ability to work independently on multifaceted projects, as well as with an OSP Engineering team to develop solutions for assigned tasks.
Strong verbal and written communication skills to present facts clearly and accurately in graphic form
Experience working to tight deadlines.
Excellent analytical skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, to develop analytic data results, display information visually, and provide various reports that contribute to various projects.
Must be able to work overtime as required.
Education and Experience:
Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.
