Job Purpose:
The Assistant Director, Discrimination and Harassment Prevention serves as the Lead Deputy Title IX Coordinator and is responsible for responding to and investigating complaints of alleged violations of Gonzaga University's Harassment and Non-Discrimination Policy and Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy. The Assistant Director, Discrimination and Harassment Prevention, collaborates with the Director of Harassment and Discrimination Prevention & Title IX Coordinator to ensure institutional compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of the 1972 Civil Rights Act, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Title VI, Title VII, equity and access, Equal Opportunity (EO), and University policies. Assistant Director, Discrimination and Harassment Prevention, in the discharge of the duties will collaborate closely with the Chief Diversity Officer, the Office of General Council, the Office of Community Standards, Human Resources, and other university administrators. The Assistant Director, Discrimination and Harassment Prevention, will perform fact-gathering and investigative functions involving Gonzaga students, faculty, and staff named in potential sexual misconduct (Title IX), discrimination, harassment, equity, and access (EO) complaints, and serve as the Lead Investigator. This position serves as a backup to the Director of Harassment and Discrimination Prevention & Title IX Coordinator, and reports to the Chief Diversity Officer in the Office of Inclusive Excellence.
Essential Functions:
- 50% - Investigation Conduct Investigations:
- Investigate complaints of discrimination and harassment, including developing plans, interviewing involved parties, collecting documentation, and analyzing findings in compliance with laws and university policies.
- Training and Support: Provide investigator training and support to university partners, and offer consultation and education on discriminatory practices and equity matters.
- Report and Communicate: Draft detailed investigation reports, provide regular updates to relevant university officials, and maintain accurate investigatory records. Policy Review and Recruitment: Participate in policy updates to ensure compliance with equal opportunity laws, and help recruit and train co-investigators as needed.
- 30% - Lead Deputy Title IX Coordinator & Consultation Complaint Resolution:
- Collaborate with the Director of Harassment and Discrimination Prevention and Title IX Coordinator to resolve complaints through informal and formal processes.
- Team Consultation: Serve as a member of the Title IX Team, providing advice and consultation, and stay updated on new Title IX rules and regulations.
- Policy and Training Development: Assist with the annual review of policies and procedures, and develop comprehensive training programs on discrimination, harassment, Title IX, and bias for the university community.
- Supportive Climate: Foster a supportive and inclusive climate, serve as a thought-leader on relevant topics, and provide trauma-informed solutions to faculty, students, and staff.
- 20% - Community Outreach, Education, and Training Policy Information and Training:
- Provide information and facilitate training on university policies related to sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment for students, employees, and others.
- Collaboration and Compliance: Collaborate with on- and off-campus resources to resolve complaints and ensure university processes comply with federal and state non-discrimination laws.
- Best Practices and Professional Development: Continuously integrate best practices into the Title IX investigation process, stay updated on current movements in the field, and participate in professional associations.
- Relationship Building: Build relationships with colleagues at peer institutions and participate in relevant conferences and workshops.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's or Juris Doctorate.
Knowledge and experience with gender/sexual violence issues and effects of sexual assault on higher education populations.
Significant relevant experience in sexual misconduct prevention, harassment and discrimination prevention, and bias programming.
Experience developing and delivering training programs regarding sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking, discrimination, harassment and bias.
Demonstrates ability to handle complex situations, including responding to parties in a sensitive and informed manner.
