Job Purpose:

The purpose of this job is direct the Office of Mission Engagement at Gonzaga University. The Office of Mission Engagement animates the Catholic, Jesuit, and humanistic mission and identity of Gonzaga University. The department’s core functions are to facilitate mission education and integration for faculty and staff, form reflective and discerning leaders, and embody solidarity and kinship. The portfolio of this position includes faculty and staff formation, partnership and programming among the regional Jesuit works, departmental assessment and program evaluation, marketing and communications, and institutional initiatives connected to employee development. This position works in collaboration with the other directors in the division of Mission Integration. This position establishes strategic directions, guides team formation, manages financial, physical and personnel resources, serves as a leader in the division of Mission Integration, and represents the work of the department throughout the university.

Essential Functions:

  • 25% - Formation:
    • Fostering a culture of encounter through mission formation with members of the Gonzaga community that seeks to advance active engagement of the university’s mission. This includes coordinating programs for Ignatian understanding that represent incremental benchmarks respectful of Gonzaga’s diverse community; creating meaningful and relevant Ignatian programs and resources for employees specific to their department/academic unit; developing and implementing spiritual retreats; coordinating heritage experiences and other mission formation initiatives; serving as a liaison with other mission initiatives in the local community; and providing spiritual and pastoral support in times of need.
  • 20% - Strategic Assessment, Management and Planning:
    • Developing and overseeing the infrastructure for the department, including a programming structure, learning and formation outcomes, methods for assessment; effectively managing and stewarding human, financial, and physical resources within the department; oversee and manage risk within the department; engage in growth planning, change management, and innovation for the future; communication, compliance, trainings, meetings, assessment, expense reporting, record keeping, professional standards, and other duties contributing to the life of the department, division, and university.
  • 15% - Mission Leadership:
    • Developing skills, knowledge, competencies and capacities in self and others to lead in a Jesuit-sponsored university; communication and collaboration throughout the Jesuit network; discerning how the Office of Mission Engagement can lead Gonzaga in deepening its mission identity and practices, and fulfilling expectations for sponsorship related to faculty and staff mission formation; providing consultation to committees, departments, colleagues, and programs with respect to mission integration.
  • 15% - Supervision:
    • Meeting regularly with direct reports; providing cura personalis; managing performance on an ongoing basis; ensuring effective performance for direct reports; establishing professional standards for departmental hiring; onboarding; and developing and overseeing a fellowship program that imbeds spiritually formed and mission-driven faculty and staff in schools and departments and invites them to share in leading initiatives to advance the university’s mission.
  • 15% - Team Development:
    • Leading the Mission Engagement team in developing skills, knowledge, competence, and capacity to fulfill the department’s mission; creating spaces for spiritual and professional formation as well as skill building; leading communal discernment; managing goal setting processes and collaborative mechanisms; developing a meeting structure and internal communications to facilitate operational effectiveness; affirming team norms and values; practicing recognition of employees; celebrating occasions and successes; establishing ways of proceeding that lead to flourishing of people and work.
  • Additional Duties as Assigned by the Department

Educational Requirement:

Master's Degree

Years of Related Experience Requirement:

5 years

In lieu of the educational qualifications, candidates may qualify with equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong understanding of Ignatian spirituality and Jesuit education and ability to lead mission-based trainings and workshops.
At least 2 years’ supervising experience.
Strong organization and administrative skills, with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communications skills.
Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people. Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Experience in teambuilding and collaboration.
Work experience in higher education


Physical & On-Campus Requirements:

The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position: $80,000-$87,000

Pay Range:

Minimum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 75680

Midpoint Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 94600

Maximum Salary (Annualized 12 months and 40 hours/week): 113520
