Good Earth Gardeners, LLC is a residential landscape contracting and maintenance company that designs, installs and maintains landscapes in the Anne Arundel County and Eastern Shore regions of Maryland. We are currently seeking experienced candidates to fill the role of Landscape Gardener/Shop Hand. Applicants should be passionate about plants and the outdoors, always seeking knowledge, and conduct themselves in a professional manner. Prior professional gardening experience is required - at least 1 year.
As a Landscape Gardener, you will be tending to everything from courtyard plantings and estate gardens, to planted containers and vegetable gardens. You will be utilizing your knowledge in sound horticultural practices, pest ID, and proper pruning techniques. The clientele you will be working with care deeply about their gardens. Communicating with them effectively will be an integral part of your role with Good Earth Gardeners. The gardens you will be managing include newly completed installations, all the way to well established gardens that are many years old.
Primary Responsibilities - Landscape Gardener (80% of the job):
- Tending to perennials and annuals in residential gardens
- Pruning and shaping of shrubs and small trees
- Container planting
- Overall health and growth of the plants
- Overall aesthetic of gardens
Requirements: Professionalism, effective communication and attention to detail Ability to cultivate a pleasant working environment with fellow employees Willingness to work in all weather conditions
- Bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Reliable transportation required. Current Maryland driver's license required
- Professional certification and training in horticultural skills on a case-by-case basis. Hourly wage range $17 - $22/Hr, dependent upon experience. Good Earth Gardeners is a non-smoking workplace. Work year runs from mid February to late December - usually a 4-6 week break period over winter. Occasional Saturday work. Occasional overtime opportunities. Work day begins at 7:30, ends between 3-6 (but usually around 4:00).
Shop Hand (20% of the job)
The Shop Hand is responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing tools, maintaining inventory, scheduling, monitoring and performing basic maintenance on shop equipment, machinery and tools.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Catalog all shop tools in an inventory
- Hand tools
- Power tools
- Gas tools
- Carts/dollies/wheelbarrows
- Work vehicles
- Trailers
- Other
- Assign Garden Kits to teams
- Educates crew members on the best practices of using tools for safety
- Requisition replacement of broken/lost tools and if approved, procure new tools
- Coordinate repair of tools at various locations such as Bowen’s Mechanical Shop
- Monitor vehicles for basic wear and tear including:
- Damage
- Cleanliness
- Stocked truck kits
- Stocked First Aid kits
- Oil Changes
- Other Maintenance
- Repairs
- Monitor trailers for basic wear and tear including:
- Damage
- Cleanliness
- Other Maintenance
- Repairs
- Annual Safety Checks at a qualified mechanic
- Locate lost tools and notify responsible parties and management
- Weed wack shop on a monthly basis
- Wash trucks on a monthly basis by taking it to a local car wash - this will usually need to occur on a Saturday or Sunday
- Check connections and lights on trailers weekly
- Check air pressure on trailer tires monthly
- Be able to drive a truck
- Provide reports on a weekly basis to management including:
- Lost tool report
- Broken tool report
- New tools needed/requested
- Truck/Trailer maintenance performed and maintenance needed and due by dates
- Organize shop and shipping container on a monthly basis
- Includes taking debris to landfill as needed - probably only every few months
- Organize Truck Kits and First Aid kits on a weekly basis ensuring each vehicle is properly supplied
- Reports to Operations Manager
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
* Ability to drive a truck with a trailer
* Proven teamwork experience
* Experience using landscaping gas and electric powered tools
- Maryland Driver’s License and reputable driving record
- Highly motivated, self-driven individual who is detail oriented
- Excellent attention to detail
- Verbal & written communications skills (English)
- Good time management skills.

- Able to work effectively with individuals of differing knowledge and background

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 45 per week
