Good Samaritan Family Resource Center (GSFRC) is an innovative multi-service non-profit agency located in San Francisco’s Mission District. Its mission is to help immigrant families access needed services, develop self-sufficiency, and participate fully as members of the community. Our staff is a diverse and talented team willing to take different and unique approaches to help children, youth and families thrive and succeed.

Program Summary

The Vision Academy program is in the SF Bayview District and available for K-8 students. The program offers limited afterschool transportation with pick-up services with a Good Samaritan van from select schools. This program provides daily support with homework & academic assistance, character & leadership development, and various enrichment & recreational activities. There is a large focus in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Position Summary

This position of the Afterschool Program (ASP) Specialist will be responsible for planning and implementing activities and services for students at the Vision Academy program. The position will work at the guidance of the Vision Academy Program Manager and this individual will be expected to deliver high-quality support to the students and perform special projects as assigned. This position supports the overall goals of the program, which is to promote the development of healthy self-esteem, positive cultural identity formation, success in school, healthy peer and teacher relations, and to help students achieve emotional wellness, resiliency, and leadership skills.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop curriculum and maintain lesson plans utilizing youth development best practices.
  • Facilitate activities and provide supervision for students in the program
  • Attend mandatory staff, supervision and other designated meetings
  • Promote program and build relationships with students and their families
  • Maintain a clean, fun, and engaging environment
  • As assigned, perform administrative tasks such as record keeping, outreach and program promotion
  • Create and collaborate and foster relationships with School staff.
  • Ensure that activities and services are aligned with Good Samaritan’s Mission and Vision
  • Other job-related duties as assigned
  • Serve as a van driver and chaperone on field trips and as needed

Other Responsibilities

  • Well versed in Youth Development Best Practices and the implementation of those practices
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and be able to write clearly
  • Proven ability to communicate and develop positive relationships with students
  • Ability to promote, maintain, and contribute consistently to a positive work culture and team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect in communication in all situations and with all stakeholders (participants, staff, parents, teachers, etc.)
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to a variety of student and programmatic needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years' experience working with and supervising youth
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND passed SFUSD District Instructional Aide Exam; OR High school diploma or equivalent AND passed CBEST; OR High school diploma or equivalent AND 48 college units (official transcripts required); OR associate degree or higher.
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License and clean driving record

Requirements

  • Must clear full background check (Department of Justice, FBI, Child Abuse Index).
  • Must have TB clearance

Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)
  • Class B license for operation of motor vehicles to transport youth members or able to attain within 90 days of employment.
  • Experience working with African American and/or Latinx immigrant community populations
