Job Description
The Certified Medication Assistant will provide resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. The role requires knowledge of and delivering age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per plan of care.
The Medication Assistant will assist with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psycho-social support and other personal care to assigned residents.
Additional responsibilities include assisting residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate, documenting outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary, and communicating changing conditions, medication follow-up, and care-related concerns/responses to the charge nurse.
The Medication Assistant will also provide housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational, and provide assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs, encouraging residents to participate.
Requirements:
- High school graduate or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred but not required.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care is preferred.
- Satisfactory completion of yearly department-specific competency testing and maintenance of a record of continuing education credits for each year.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing is required in North Dakota and Iowa, and must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing.
- Nursing assistant certification and registration with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry are required in Minnesota.
- Successful completion of a state-approved Trained Medication Assistant course is required.
- CMA certification must be maintained with the State Board of Nursing.
