Job Title: Staff Nurse (may be RN or LPN)
Supervisor: Head Nurse (RN), Administrator & Manager
Summary of the position:
The licensed nurse provides health assistance and supervision to the residents of the Welty Home, including administration of medications, in accordance with orders from the physician or other lawfully authorized health care professionals, and within applicable WV State laws and rules. In addition, the licensed nurse may provide limited and intermittent nursing care and treatment to the residents, in accordance with applicable state regulations. The nurse assesses emergency situations, performs necessary first aid, and arranges for appropriate treatment. The nurse is responsible for all appropriate documentation for hours on duty.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dispense medication, regularly scheduled and PRN, per physician orders; document appropriately.
- Assess the needs of residents who may be ill; make decisions regarding in-room meals.
- Check plates after meals to note if any residents are not eating well.
- Communicate with residents, physicians, and families about health-related concerns.
- Take telephone orders and prepare written verification from for mailing.
- Check-in medication deliveries and prepare for dispensing according to policy.
- Monitor residents’ condition, completing rounds as necessary.
- Document in nurses notes any change in status of health or welfare of resident.
- Carry beeper at all times, answer emergency calls immediately, assess the situation, perform necessary care and arrange for follow-up treatment as appropriate.
- Prepare physician order sheets for next day’s appointments
- Assist in keeping residents’ medical files up-to-date; participate in quality assurance activities as directed.
- Communicate with transportation department re: medical appointments.
- Ensure safety of residents by making rounds according to schedule and considering resident’s condition.
- Participate in resident assessment and development/monitoring of individual service plan
- Answer telephone as needed.
- Notify administrator of problems as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned, within scope of practice
Experience/Education:
Completion of a state-approved school of nursing
Current licensure as a registered professional nurse or a licensed practical nurse
Experience with care of the elderly is desirable but not mandatory
Current CPR certification
Mental/Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate with residents, families, other staff, and outside health –professionals and document accordingly
Walking, bending, stooping, standing; some sitting

8 hour shifts available
$1.50/$2.00 shift differentials for afternoon and evening hours and all weekend shifts
