Summary of the Position:
This position is 3pm - 11pm, with the option of a Sunday-Thursday or a Monday-Friday work week, holidays off position. Supervising all nursing and ancillary personnel and activities related to nursing care in the nursing unit(s). Assessing the needs of each resident initiating the nursing care plan of meeting those needs. Coordinating the resident care plan. Works only within the scope of practice as designated by the WV RN/LPN Licensing Board.
Key Responsibilities:
Shall contact resident’s physician, DON, Administrator, or legal representative, as relevant, of any accident or change of condition within a reasonable period of time, depending upon the seriousness of the resident’s condition.
Completes accident, or incident reports when applicable and reports these to MPOA and physician immediately except from 11PM-7AM if there is no injury.
Reviews physician orders, medications, treatments sheets every (30) thirty days.
Makes rounds with physicians and accepts the responsibility for having, a written, signed and dated progress note in the residents record at the time of each visit.
Orders for medical care are requested as needed and signed by physicians.
Documents, reviews, and revises care plan as necessary.
Observation of resident’s documentation in the nursing notes shall give evidence that care is adequate and that the restorative nursing care program is followed.
Venous puncture for blood samples and I.V. therapy when ordered by attending physician or alternate physician and insertion of naso/gastric tubes.
Creates sensitivity in the nursing staff to resident needs.
Guides and directs personnel in determining the best approach to meet the nursing care of residents based on staff qualifications, size and physical layout of the facility, characteristics of the resident load and the emotional social and nursing care needs of residents.
Visits each resident and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of resident care each shift.
Gives direct nursing care to residents when judged advisable and necessary.
Accepts the responsibility for executions of the physician’s orders and delegates this task to qualified members of the nursing staff.
Accepts the responsibility for accurate reporting and recording of resident’s reaction, symptoms, and progress to members of the health team.
Promotes good interpersonal relationships among the staff, and between the staff and the residents, their families and visitors.
Promotes and participates in continuing learning situations for nursing personnel and students.
Participates in orientation of nursing service personnel.
Provides for the development of a nursing care plan based on raps for each resident through individual and group conferences that clearly reflects the needs demonstrated on the MDS 2.0.
Coordinates activities of nursing care with activities of other departments.
Participates in formulating policies pertaining to nursing staff and interprets these to nursing personnel.
Investigates new developments and trends in nursing practices and techniques and evaluates them in relation to nursing care.
In conjunction with the DON, is directly responsible for correcting problems regarding quality of care or poor nursing staff performance. Counsels staff when needed regarding job performance. Recommends disciplinary measures when warranted.
Advises the DON immediately of significant change in a resident’s condition.
Responsible for reporting abuse, neglect or misappropriation of personal property as a mandatory reporter.
