JOB SUMMARY
-
As a Diagnostic X-Ray Technologist, you will play a key role in performing diagnostic imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The primary focus of this role will be on X-ray imaging; however, candidates who are also licensed to perform CT will possibly provide flex coverage on occasion as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
CLINICAL KNOWLEDGE
-
The Radiology Technologist performs diagnostic radiographic procedures adhering to the principle of radiation protection, according to local, state and federal standards.

Knowledge of positioning, techniques and radiologic examinations.
-
Knowledge of Picture Archival Communication Systems, (PACS).
-
Applicable Flex CT Functions (if licensed):
- Knowledge of computed tomographic examinations including procedures that require the use and risks of IV contrast media.
- Understanding of cross-sectional anatomy in the 3 primary planes of imaging, transverse, coronal and sagittal.
- Capable of adjusting or manipulating scan protocols for CT based upon the patients’ diagnosis in an effort to increase the effectiveness of the imaging procedure.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION AND SAFETY
-
Operating knowledge of radiographic equipment to include Diagnostic Radiography, Fluoroscopy, and Computed Tomography (if licensed).

Implementing radiation safety procedures for patients, self, and staff to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation, to meet ALARA standards.

Ensures appropriate exam is ordered and completed studies are delivered to PACS and Radiologist.

Follow-up to ensure radiologist reports are delivered to appropriate locations.

CLINICAL ASSESSMENT
-
Knowledge of individual patient needs as specifically related to the ordered procedure.
-
Evaluates each patient’s safety prior to the start of the exam and maintain ALARA.

Properly identifies patient and exam and able to assess imaging requirements based upon the patient’s diagnosis and physical limitations.

COMMUNICATION
-
Open, accurate and responsive communication, oral or written, on an individual basis or in groups.

Communicate with hospital staff, ordering providers, and radiologist.

Must possess time management skills to allow the ability to handle multiple tasks or projects and meet applicable deadlines.

Ensures coordination of daily work duties with the team and coordinates timing of exams.

Accurate and timely completion of exams.

Provide exceptional service to all patients, family, physicians, staff, and outside vendors.

By keeping information confidential, following Good Shepherd’s policy and procedures for release of information, maintaining secure medical records and maintaining security for the contents of the business office.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
-
High School Diploma or the Equivalent
-
Graduate from an ARRT recognized Radiologic Science Program.

Work Experience
-
1 year of experience as a diagnostic X-Ray Technologist is preferred.

Licenses / Certifications
-
Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification
-
Current BLS/CPR certification
-
If applicable, Current Computed Tomography (CT) certification.
