  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Infection Control Director manages the comprehensive Infection Control program and is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team of healthcare providers. The Director coordinates the program activities of surveillance, investigations, education, intervention, data analysis, and trending. The IC Director must be knowledgeable in epidemiology, patient care practices, infectious diseases, and crisis interventions. S/He identifies, investigates and records data concerning nosocomial infections, reportable diseases, employee health, and regulatory compliance. The job responsibilities also include monitoring compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements, as well as safe practices by staff. S/He maintains strong community liaison communications with Public Health officials and other agencies, and participates in the Infection Control Practitioner professional organization.
    • In this high profile role, the Director of Infection Control will provide overall operational leadership for the department. This hospital-wide program will pursue excellence in influencing, supporting and improving the quality of healthcare through the practice of management of infection control, education and the application of epidemiology principles and research. The Director will accomplish this through: infection prevention and control expertise and consultations b) surveillance for epidemiologic significant events c) reduction in infection disease risks and d) prevention of health care associated infections in patients, employees and visitors ensuring compliance with applicable laws, accrediting agencies and related professional standards.


  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • MAINTAINS AND DEVELOPS THE INFECTION CONTROL MANUAL
    • By reviewing, evaluating and applying standards of practice across the continuum
  • SUPPORTS AND IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF HEALTCARE
    • By the practice of management of infection control, education and the application of epidemiology principles and research.
  • MANAGES EMPLOYEE HEALTH FUNCTION
    • Responsible for the end-to-end management of the annual Influenza Vaccination Campaign, ensures annual monitoring of Positive PPD reactors to include chest x-ray management, and providing counsel to managers, when appropriate, regarding employees who present an illness that should not report to work (i.e., “pink eye”, etc.).
  • WORKS CLOSELY WITH EMPLOYEE HEALTH IN EVALUATING ANY SIGNIFICANT EXPOSURES AND POLICIES FOR THE HEALTHCARE WORKER,
    • By reviewing all current literature and presenting C.D.C. guidelines for evaluation in the organization, by reducing the risks and preventing health care associated infections
  • WORKS CLOSELY WITH DEPARTMENTS IN EVALUATING ANY SIGNIFICANT EXPOSURES AND POLICIES FOR PATIENTS AND VISITORS
    • By reviewing all current literature and presenting C.D.C. guidelines for evaluation in the organization, by reducing the risks and preventing health care associated infections, and by ensuring compliance with applicable laws, accrediting agencies and related professional standards.
  • APPLIES APPROPRIATE CURRENT THEORETICAL CONCEPTS TO IMPLEMENT CHANGES IN PRACTICES WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION TO IMPROVE PATIENT CARE AND PREVENT INFECTIONS
    • By utilizing proven infection prevention and control expertise and consultations and by conducting surveillance for significant events.
  • MANAGES CRITICAL DATA AND INFORMATION, INCLUDING SURVEILLANCE OF NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION
    • By providing the organization with a baseline using proven data bases and formulas for benchmarking.
  • ASSURES THE ORGANIZATION IS AWARE AND ASSISTS IN COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATION, GUIDELINES AND ACCREDITATION REQUIREMENTS
    • By attending pertinent conferences and maintaining selective professional organization membership.
    • By reviewing standards as applicable to each licensure.
    • By providing guidance in establishing protocols to meet those regulations.
    • Maintains certification as a Certified Infection Control Practitioner.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    • Education
      • Bachelor'd Degree in a related field required
      • Master's Degree of Public Health or other health related field preferred
    • Work Experience
      • 7-10 years of experience in Infection Control prevention required
      • 2-4 years of prior supervisory experience preferred
    • Licenses / Certifications
      • Certified Infection Control (CIC) required
