The Internship and Career Coordinator prepares students for internships and future opportunities. The coordinator develops and manages internships in sectors that meet students interests and works in collaboration with other program staff to provide students with educational and career resources, support and guidance.
Title: Internship and Career Coordinator
Reports To: SYEP/ WLG Program Director,
Location: Cross sites- Brooklyn and the Bronx
Hours: 25 Hrs/Week- Part-time
Schedule: Monday- Friday 10am-3pm
Salary: $28.28-$31.11/hr
Major Duties:
- Facilitate skill/competency-building employment/internship preparation workshops for students in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), the Work, Learn, and Grow Program (WLG), and the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Internship
- Provide job and career preparation tools for students.
- Support students growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet the students needs.
- Collaborate with DOE Internship Coordinator to create and build external worksites for students.
- Recruit students to participate in the programming.
- Monitor and build worksite partnerships relationships.
- Develop internships (in person and/or remote) in diverse range of employment fields, to match students skills, maturity levels, and experience.
- Provide guidance to employers on maximizing internship experiences by working effectively with adolescents.
- Facilitate workshops on employment/Internship readiness to students.
- Manage student assignments to internal and external worksites.
- Track, evaluate and report on multiple aspects of program operations.
- Meet weekly with Program Director and program staff to provide worksite development and program updates.
- The person in this role will have to travel locally and within throughout the Bronx and Brooklyn 1-2 times a week for site visits with existing partners and to develop new sites for our participants to intern at.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree and at least 1 year experience working with adolescents/youth adults in education/employment related fields required.
- Strong group facilitation or teaching skills required.
- Statistical and narrative record keeping preferred.
- Bilingual in English and another language preferred.
- Experience developing internships for youth preferred.
- Ability to work with diverse staff and students and network with diverse employer constituents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Candidates with Administrative, Hiring, Budgeting, Creating Workshops, Community Organizing and Community Partnership skills are encouraged to apply.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development perspective.
