Title: Master's in Social Work (MSW) Intern
Reports To: Social Work Supervisor
Location: 797 Bushwick Ave, Brooklyn NY 11221
Hours: 14 hours weekly
Job Summary: The Social Work Intern provides a range of counseling & youth development services. These include day-time individual and group clinical counseling and facilitation of activities during after-school hours. The Social Work Intern participates in advisement activities, a range of academic supports, and is fully integrated into the life of the day school and after school program.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Participates in all aspects of GSS programming and projects including the clinical counseling program, student group activities, showcases, café jam, and attendance projects.
- Provide individual and group counseling for a caseload of 6 to 8 students.
- Develop and utilize group work strategies that support and enhance students skill development and help build on youth competencies.
- Perform family interventions to support family engagement and participation in the school community and the lives of their youth.
- Refer youth and families to appropriate resources both within the Good Shepherd Program Network and other community organizations as appropriate.
- Participate in Clinical Group Supervision, Team meetings and DOE Meetings in collaboration with Guidance Counselors.
- Perform crisis intervention and mediation for students as needed.
- Work collaboratively with DOE staff to create a caring school environment and build community
- Actively participate in supervision with Social Worker Supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently enrolled in an MSW program.
- Experience and demonstrated skill in working with youth and families required.
- Prior experience in a school setting preferred.
- Excellent organizational, written, and communication skills.
- Must have a commitment to working from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
