What are the responsibilities and job description for the SYEP Education Coordinator position at Good Shepherd Services?
The SYEP Education Coordinator works with program staff, in helping the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) participants connect with jobs, provide job readiness training(s) and workshops, and career exploration through SYEP. The SYEP Education Coordinator will help to provide support to participants in developing and maturing their career interests.
REPORTS TO: SYEP Director
LOCATION: Bushwick Leaders High School (Brooklyn) and DeWitt Clinton High School (Bronx)
HOURS: 25 Hours/Week, Hybrid, Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal
SALARY: $17.15-$19.05/hr
Major Duties:
- Develop and facilitate virtual SYEP orientations and workshops.
- Attend all program trips as scheduled.
- Assisting the Internship Coordinator with workplace assignments to maintain employment that is consistent with their individual career interest.
- Assessing participants career interests' on an ongoing basis utilizing background information to develop work experiences.
- Conducting job development and job search activities directed towards positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the population served.
- Providing outreach to employer contacts and serving as an advocate for participants.
- Attend all in-person workshops 1-2 times a week.
- Conduct outreach to the program participants regarding attendance, participation, and support.
- Assist the Program Director in engaging, motivating, and coordinating student participation.
- Assisting with the management of SYEP Payroll for Younger Youth (Ages 14-15).
- Provide participants with support and linkages to programs and opportunities in the community.
- Maintain regular participation in meetings coordinated by the DYCD, Sub-contractor, and GSS internal meetings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma Required
- Experience working with High School Aged Youth and the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
- Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly, effectively and collaboratively with all levels of staff, program participants and external worksite management.
- Proficiency with computers and hand-held devices, including the ability to use databases and common office programs.
