Title: TUTOR, ROSE HOUSE CLOSE TO HOME Non-Secure Placement Residence
Reports to: Educational/Vocational Specialist, CLOSE TO HOME NSP
Location: 280 Shepherd Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11208
Hours: Up to 10 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt (After school hours/evenings and/or weekends)
***Salary Range $16.16-$23.15 Hourly***
Job Summary: The Tutor will work one to one with participants ages 13- 20 at Good Shepherd Services Non-Secure Placement program in need of academic support and guidance in English and history, or in math and science. The tutor will support the youth with utilize effective study habits and techniques based on that young persons individual strengths and needs. This includes tutoring youth in preparation for standardized exams including but not limited to regents, and/or GED exams. The tutor will also support youth with completing or overcoming challenges for daily academic tasks, including but not limited to homework assignments or essays. The tutor will support the group of youth with completing any school group projects. Tutor will provide this support in collaboration with treatment team and school personnel. This position is in person/onsite only.
Major Duties:
- Provide individual and group instruction for students in need of academic support.
- Assist students in comprehending and completing required coursework.
- Assist students in preparation for required exams.
- Collaborate with Educational/Vocational Specialists to develop tutoring plans.
- Function as a member of the Good Shepherd NSP team.
- Support the Missouri model of group treatment.
- Support the use of Sanctuary Model tools such as safety plans, community meetings, and self-care in the department/program to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
- Promote and model the seven Sanctuary Model commitments to create a non-violent and trauma-sensitive culture.
- Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required. Bachelors degree preferred.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth development and trauma-informed perspective.
- Must have experience supporting adolescent age youth with academics.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Current Graduate and undergraduate students encouraged to apply.
