SUMMARY:
This position includes medical coding for Goodland Regional Medical Center and Rawlins County Health Center. Coding for the following departments may be assigned: Rural Health Clinic, Outpatient, Emergency, Inpatient and/or Skilled Swing Bed. The coder will review, analyze, and code diagnostic and procedural information that determines Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance company reimbursement. The coder will code according to the most recent ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines. The coder will also ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- The coder assigns and sequences ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS to diagnoses and procedures for documented information.
- Assures the final diagnoses and operative procedures as stated by the physician are valid and complete. These codes describe each documented diagnosis, surgical procedure and special therapy or procedure according to established guidelines.
- Perform a comprehensive review for the record to assure the presence of all component parts such as: patient and record identification, signatures and dates where required and other necessary data which appear to be indicated by the nature of the treatment rendered.
- Evaluate all records for documentation consistency and adequacy. Ensure that the final diagnosis accurately reflects the care and treatment rendered.
- Analyzes provider documentation to assure the appropriate Evaluation and Management (E&M) levels are assigned using the correct CPT code.
- Scan paper documents into the electronic health record.
- Demonstrate behaviors consistent with organizational policies, mission & goals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education: High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum Experience: Healthcare coding experience preferred.
Certification or Registration if required: Coding certification preferred

Working conditions: In-door, climate-controlled office setting that is occasionally very busy. This position includes potential hazards/risks related to ergonomics/body mechanics, infectious agents, and hazardous substances and mechanical/electrical equipment.
