What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Engineering and Design Manager position at Goodway Technologies Corporation?
As Product Engineering and Design Manager, you will report to the Executive Vice President of Engineering & Operations and be responsible for planning, organizing and coaching Design Engineering to meet Goodway objectives for design, new product development and improvement of existing product lines by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. In addition, you will partner with Production, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales and Legal departments to ensure design and development work activities and resources are aligned to deliver high value products to our customers while meeting and adapting to the goals of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit, select, develop, train and supervise staff
- Lead, motivate, coach/mentor and engage team to maximize performance
- Oversee key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis.
- Plan and formulate aspects of research and development proposals.
- Develop, determine and implement policies, procedures and programs.
- Select correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones.
- Review and analyze proposals submitted through a collaborative Stage Gate process, to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
- Plan and manage patents associated with product designs and applications.
- Approve and submit proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds from the department budget.
- Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Shipping and Quality; reviews and monitors quality, process improvements and new product development.
- Support the review of production costs, product quality, and production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of company.
- Review operations and plans, in order to meet requirements for sales planning and to ascertain engineering requirements to develop new markets.
- Direct preparation of accounting records for budgetary, production efficiency or other such purposes.
- Recommend budgets to management, including staff use, technology, facility and equipment requirements or improvements.
- Identify, justify and deliver significant manufacturing continuous improvement and cost reductions
- Provide project management leadership through direct reports and others
- Coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products
- Partner with production and engineering areas to conduct technical training and introduce new processes
- Lead engineering design reviews; evaluate and approve designs, drawings, routings, specifications and other documents
- Support all efforts toward maintaining ISO 9001 processes and documentation.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position manages all employees within the Design Engineering department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.
Qualifications:- Able to design on a CAD system (SolidWorks preferred)
- Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to develop processes to improve workflow
- Thrives on finding solutions to problems
- Detail-oriented, multi-tasks effectively, and can meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Experienced in Design For Manufacturability (DFM)
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong technology proficiency, ability to establish rapport
- Ability to work independently with a strong sense of focus, action-oriented, non-judgmental
- Enjoy working with hands, use basic hand tools and measuring implements
- Understanding of GD&T and Stack Analysis
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or related field required
- 3 years of experience as an Engineering Manager, in product design-for-manufacture capacity
- Ability to manage multiple projects and personnel development simultaneously
- Commitment to innovation and problem-solving, “roll up the sleeves” approach
- Experience managing BOMs and products in an ERP system (Epicor preferred)
- Familiarity with design control in an ISO 9001 environment
Salary : $140,000 - $155,000
