Crosby Scholars is a 501(c)3, formed in 1992 in Forsyth County, with a purpose to prepare students academically, financially, and personally for successful college admission. Crosby Scholars expanded to Rowan County in 2013 and Iredell County in 2015 to better serve central North Carolina students as an independent affiliate of Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC, Inc. Our programs are available to all public middle and high school students and helps students achieve in and out of the classroom and contribute to the community.  

Since 1992, Crosby Scholars has provided career and college exploration, admissions and financial aid workshops, advising services, college campus visits, community service opportunities, cultural experiences, and over $980,000 in scholarships and Last Dollar Grants for college tuition annually, Crosby Scholars now serves more than 11,000 students each year and has assisted over 35,000 Forsyth County students for college and for life.

Job Summary

The Executive Director of Crosby Scholars is responsible for the fund raising, strategic development, direction, and operations of a Crosby Scholars program in support of the organizational and board of advisor objectives.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directs, develops, and implements the strategy to meet the needs of the communities in which Crosby Scholars serve by creating programs and opportunities supported by funding raising that impact students to enhance their lives through education.
  • Develops strategic partnerships, collaboration and innovative solutions with community leaders, employers, educators, government, and other human services providers to promote, raise funds, create impact, and opportunities for Crosby Scholars.
  • Leads and implements short and long term strategic, operational plans and budgets. Including annual objectives, goals, gaps, training, safety, and process improvements in support of, the organizations mission, vision, values, and strategic plans.
  • Develops deep community relationships to garner trust, support, and advancement of programs.
  • Effectively leads talent strategy in area of responsibility to ensure high-performing, high-growth and engaged team.
  • Partners with IT team to lead implementations, upgrades, development, and maintenance of technology systems.
  • Develops employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee working environment.
  • Mentors and coaches’ direct reports to assist and challenge them to think through their strategic and operational plans.
  • Creates and encourages a great place for team members to work resulting in a sense of belonging and culminating in employer of choice.
  • Works cross-functionally with all departments to identify cost savings initiatives and efficiencies to drive unit growth.
  • Leads and/or sponsors cross-functional projects in alignment with the organizational strategic plan.
  • Evaluates industry and business trends for potential impact on operations.
  • Recommends, evaluates, facilitates, and participates in employee and team development events throughout the organization.
  • Represents the organization at various community, business, and civic functions to increase general visibility and awareness of Crosby Scholar programs, services, and enterprises.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, or related field; master’s degree preferred.

 

Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years’ experience in education, development, or fund-raising management, with experience in a company of similar size/ complexity, required.
  • Experience with college admission and post-secondary pathways.
  • Proven leadership, with track record of fund raising, board management and community involvement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusiveness and equity, and values of respect, integrity, service, excellence, and stewardship.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership and management skills, including coaching, performance management, training and developing leaders and team members.
  • Strong leadership qualities and organizational effectiveness skills, essential.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach and ability to influence and communicate at all levels, as well as cross-functionally.
  • Exceptional communication skills that promote a free flow of information throughout the organization and demonstrates candor and openness when discussing major organizational initiatives.
  • Strong project management skills reflecting an ability to manage shifting priorities and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Understanding of compliance and regulatory/statutory legislation and reporting procedures within the industry.
  • Comfortable challenging the status quo to make an impact and drive change management.
  • Exceptional analytical and data gathering skills, logical decision making and troubleshooting skills with the ability to problem solve in a timely manner.
  • Ability to develop a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision making, leading to improved KPIs and employee experiences.
  • Strong aptitude for developing and driving strategy, execution, and results.
  • Experience with operational financial budgeting and analysis.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong customer focus and consistently performs with a sense of urgency.
  • Travel is required.
