JOB SUMMARY
Receive donations in a courteous manner to encourage continued community support. Following established procedures, perform preliminary sorting before packing/stacking/donations to Kaizen protocol.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Open trailer, survey supplies and trailer capacity, report the number and type of large items requiring truck pickup and place status calls to supervisor according to defined procedures.
Greet donors. Following defined procedures, accept or reject items for donation; explain reasons for item rejection.
Offer donor a receipt. Issue a receipt, record time and nature of donation on daily record.
Sort and stack donations into designated containers, ensuring items are tagged appropriately to contents.
Maintain clean/neat trailer both inside/outside.
Close and secure trailer at designated times.
Place large and/or heavy items next to or under trailer.
Assist drivers with loading of large items and transfer of trailers.
SECONDARY DUTIES
Depending on location, may assist with warehouse donation drop-offs.
Perform related duties as assigned

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQ’D: None.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None. Duties can be learned through on-the-job training.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Knowledge of Goodwill Central Coast’s mission, general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).
EQUIPMENT USED: Barrels, wire cages, boxes, broom & dustpan, pen/pencil, paper and clipboard.
SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:
Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred.
Ability to understand and follow the organizational/packing/stacking procedures within the trailer.
Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver up/down steps and lift/stack donations.
Ability to understand and accept direction and follow procedures.
Ability to perform repetitive work, adapting to fluctuating work activity with periods of idle time.
Ability to maintain self-control, deal effectively with the public and work in cooperation with co-workers.
Ability to make judgments regarding the acceptance of donations and to tactfully explain decisions or present information clearly regarding acceptability of donations, following established policies.
Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy.
Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.
EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
The activity level will fluctuate depending on a variety of factors including location, day of week and weather conditions. The work is routine, requiring little or no overtime.
JOB SETTING
The job is performed independently but with regular contact with the public and occasional contact with other employees. Hours are generally established with seasonal and/or some location variation. The activity level will fluctuate depending on a variety of factors including location, day of week and weather conditions. The job is performed inside and outside a trailer with exposure to weather, noise from traffic, dust/dirt, other airborne particles, fumes, and odors. The ground around the trailer may be uneven. Trailers stand two to four feet from the ground and may require climbing steps or use of a ladder. Separating household chemicals from regular donations may occur.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The job requires frequent lifting of items weighing up to 25 lbs, with regular lifting of items weighing up to 50 lbs. Large or heavier items (51 lbs. or more) will be moved either with assistance from another person or by using proper material handling equipment. Large and/or heavy furniture items are pushed (when possible) next to the trailer. The attendant assists with loading of items on truck during Goodwill Central Coast’s site servicing. Normal mobility is required to climb up and down steps.
Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
