The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all aspects of payroll, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of payroll for our 500 employees. This position requires in-depth knowledge and experience with payroll practices.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
- Successfully process bi-weekly payroll for 500 employees. Review employee hours in timekeeping system, audit hours and earnings prior to payroll submittal, research and correct discrepancies, enter payroll adjustments and meet deadlines for payroll submittals.
- Ensure timely distribution of payroll to multiple locations, including stores and offices.
- Process and issue manual checks for out-of-cycle payments.
- Calculate and process retroactive pay increases.
- Research and respond to employee inquiries and payroll-related correspondence.
- Adhere to all State and Federal laws pertaining to employee wages and hours.
- Keep abreast of payroll related issues and laws including wage and hour rules and regulations for California based employees.
- Communicate closely with Human Resource as needed.
- Generate payroll reports and distribute to supervisors/managers, including bi-weekly, monthly and ad-hoc reports.
- Assist employees with timekeeping questions and provide training as needed.
- Work with HR and/or payroll service to resolve payroll issues.
- Process wage garnishments and other third party withholdings.
- Review and process all W-2 forms with payroll service. Ensure W-2’s are accurate and distributed on time.
- Assist with annual audit, workers comp and other audits as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum three years of experience processing high volume payroll, at least one year experience with 500 employees.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Proficient with payroll systems and timekeeping integration.
- Prior experience with Paycom is a plus.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Two-year degree in accounting is desired.
- Familiar with Generally-Accepted Accounting Principles and basic double-entry accounting.
- Experience processing payroll for both salaried and hourly employees.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
- Experience reconciling payroll tax liabilities and accruals is a plus
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.

- Ability to drive a vehicle to take bank deposits and occasionally attend trainings or other company business. This may require proof of personal vehicle liability insurance.
Compensation
- $18.00 - $20.00 hourly
