Custodian I (Must meet eligibility for state use program)

Summary/Objective

Performs moderately complex (journey-level) custodial work. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may fully perform a variety of routine daily tasks but may often rely on direction from others to solve problems that are not standard. Employees may occasionally assist others in performing job duties of greater complexity.

Essential Functions

· Pulling trash from indoor receptacles

· Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors inside academic and non-academic facilities

· Cleaning restrooms (toilets, urinals, sinks, fountains)

· Restocking custodial supplies (soap cartridges, paper towels, toilet paper)

· Dusting countertops

· Wiping down windows at entry ways

· Cleaning hallways

· Mopping up spills or other fluids

· Sweeping stairwells

May require squatting, lifting items 20 pounds or more, climbing step ladders, pushing/pulling equipment

Qualifications

Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.

Education and Experience

Experience in custodial work. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.

This is a State Set Aside Contract, which requires that employees have a qualifying disabling condition. This is a TEMPORARY position to start ASAP. Employees will be employed by and paid by Goodwill of Central East Texas Inc. This position is not hired by the state's office but rather, through Goodwill. Temporary position is through a state set-aside contract aimed at helping people with disabling conditions find employment.
