The Adult Literacy Instructor will teach adult learners with low literacy levels and/or limited English-speaking skills, the fundamentals needed in reading, writing, and everyday math to succeed in the workplace and/or occupational training. The ideal candidate will possess the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to use content standards to create a curriculum, provide classroom instruction, and measure student learning gains.

Role And Responsibilities
- Provide in-person group instruction to adult learners in a non-traditional school setting with small class ratios.
- Collaborate and coordinate community adult learning classes, as needed, with community-based partners.
- Provide individualized student learning support during dedicated outside-of-class times.
- Work closely with the Program Manager and collaborate with internal colleagues, as needed, for assistance in developing curriculum and instructional plans that incorporate the usage of an online learning platform.
- Ensure student accountability measures are met and provide interventions when needed.
- Work closely with the program’s Admissions Coordinator and assist with relevant student enrollment activities including administering the required pre- and post-tests.
- Maintain student retention by implementing a student engagement plan.
- Keep track of all classroom and/or community site instructional materials by maintaining inventory and inform the Program Manager of material needs in a timely manner.
- Document and store student data in a confidential manner and submit as requested by the Program Manager.
- Assist the Program Manager with creating special initiatives relevant to the program.
- Prepare and submit all required programmatic reports to the Program Manager in a timely manner.
- Participate in instructional observations and attend internal or external meetings as needed.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and confidence including inviting guest speakers and providing ‘real-world’ learning activities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and complete all required trainings in a timely manner.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in education or a related field
- Experience teaching, training or tutoring adults
- A high degree of flexibility, as the instructor will be expected to teach at various locations based on program needs
- Candidates must be willing and able to travel to other Goodwill locations in the greater Austin area and work varying schedules as needed
- Candidates must be comfortable with variable hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Ability to work 40 hours per week
- Ability to sit or stand for eight hours.
- Ability to bend and twist.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Moderate noise (i.e., business offices with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
- Ability to work in a confined area.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone, keyboard, reach, stoop and kneel.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required as business demands dictate.
- Teaching certification
- 1 year or more experience teaching, training or tutoring non-native English speaking adults
- Familiarity with the Texas Adult Education Content Standards or Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills
