What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Care Technician Program Instructor position at Goodwill Central Texas?
The Patient Care Technician Program Instructor will plan, teach, and evaluate students in the classroom and clinical skills performance, leading to successful completion of the program and attainment of certification. This role requires a high degree of flexibility and autonomy and availability to support evening class times.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide both classroom and lab instruction to adult Patient Care Technician students utilizing an approved training curriculum and materials
- Deliver effective instruction by assuming primary responsibility for curriculum development in conjunction with the GCTA and Texas Workforce Commission’s policies and procedures; ensuring both rigor and quality of instruction by considering individual differences of students to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.
- Enhance the student’s learning experience by integrating real-life situations into learning experiences to encourage critical thinking; employing methods that develop student understanding of discipline-specific thinking, practices, and procedures
- Promote continual improvement by developing and revising curriculum as needed and using defined student learning outcomes to plan, develop, document, and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching activities.
- In partnership with the Senior Director and Manager of Curriculum and Instruction, establish program goals and objectives, metrics, and desired program outcomes to include graduation, certification, and placement targets; establish action steps to achieve outcomes.
- Cultivate partnerships with local employers and community organizations to support enrollment and placement targets.
- Maintain an organized and disciplined classroom environment.
- Monitor student attendance and ensure strict adherence to classroom / school schedule
- Assist GCTA Administrators with the collection of student data such as certification and employment status of graduates.
- Pursue professional development by taking graduate courses or internal classes offered by the College or professional development organizations, as appropriate and maintaining required professional credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours as disciplinary standards dictate.
- Maintain expertise in the subject area.
- Assist Program Manager with coordination of student externships
- Other duties as assigned.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in Patient Care.
- Current industry certification required, such as : RMA, CMA, PCT or similar.
- Completed a course in teaching adults or have experience teaching adults.
- Demonstrated experience in multiple pedagogical techniques (hybrid, online and in-person).
- Superior critical thinking, problem solving and judgment skills.
- Experience with or desire to work with individuals who have barriers to employment.
- Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Light work that includes lifting and moving objects up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to communicate with others to exchange information.
- Ability to assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
- Ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
