Vision Services Rehabilitation Teacher

Summary The Rehabilitation Teacher will be responsible for all phases of rehabilitation teaching for totally blind and visually impaired persons.  The Rehabilitation Teacher will also assist in conducting low vision assessments and the management and daily operation of the aids and appliances inventory.  In addition, the Rehabilitation Teacher will provide information and referral to the visually impaired community and assist in the responsibility for referrals information and recommendation.  Essential Duties & Responsibilities  Supervise and conduct all rehabilitation teaching to individuals who are visually impaired and blind utilizing the appropriate techniques. Assist with the functional vision program and conduct functional vision assessments. Assist in maintaining the aids and appliances inventory and updating the same. Assist in developing an information and referral system for use by the community population who are blind and visually impaired. Maintain a close working relationship with referral sources to ensure the needs of the persons referred to the Agency are met. Generate written reports for rehabilitation teaching and low vision assessment with an emphasis on recommendations. Maintain all necessary documentation required by the Agency, CARF and other regulatory and funding organizations. Comply with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards and ensure safety training throughout areas supervised and maintain same to meet CARF, OSHA, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards. Supervisory Responsibilities   None Education Requirements  Minimum of a BS or BA of an accredited university offering rehabilitation teaching.   Experience Requirements Minimum of 1 year experience in rehabilitation teaching and a knowledge of vocational rehabilitation as related to visually impaired and blind individuals is required.    Qualifications  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be able to problem solve and react to dynamic circumstances. Must be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
