Job Objective:
Nurse-Family Partnership, a maternal and early childhood home visiting program, fosters long-term success for first-time parents, their babies, and society. Nurse-Family Partnership’s maternal health program introduces vulnerable first-time parents to caring maternal and child health nurses. This program allows nurses to deliver the support first-time parents need to have a healthy pregnancy, become knowledgeable and responsible parents, and provide their babies with the best possible start in life. Nurse-Family Partnership is a research-based program that has been demonstrated to significantly improve critical outcomes for at-risk parents and their children who receive services in local communities. Beginning with nurse home visits that occur during pregnancy and continue until the child is age two, Nurse Home Visitors provide coaching and support to first-time expectant mothers.
The role of the Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) is to work within the NFP model and the Goodwill organization, along with the Director of Operations and the Nurse Supervisors to guide each nurse’s orientation and ongoing professional development. The primary role of the CNE is, using principles of reflective practice and staff development, to provide educational and career development support to NFP Nurse Home Visitors in Indiana. CNE will use technology to reach and engage NFP staff, and to maintain a strengths-based, client-centered culture. This position reports to the Director of NFP Operations who evaluates performance annually.
Essential Job Functions:
- Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
- Work with National Service Office, NFP Directors, and NFP Nurse Supervisors to assure education in NFP model elements.
- Work with NFP Nurse Supervisors to develop/coordinate education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
- Serve as a consultant in support of Motivational Interviewing skill building.
- Support NFP Nurse Supervisors by consulting with staff regarding individual learning needs and performance plan development.
- Conduct assessments using a variety of strategic tools.
- Plan, prepare, and maintain materials for use in educational programs that benefit nurses at all stages of their career development.
- Develop technology solutions for distance learning: orientation, continuing education, and team meetings/case conferences.
- Provide First Aid/CPR instruction to program staff.
- Work with the schools of nursing to develop strategies to assure diverse pipelines of community health nurses and consults with local universities to form academic practice partnerships.
- Collaborate with nursing leaders in NFP community and NSO to support educational needs of nursing staff.
- Collaborate with the NFP National Service Office to recommend educational strategies for the implementation of clinical standards.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Demonstrated leadership in providing maternal/child health services, within the NFP model.
- Experience in mentoring/orienting nurses, either formally or informally.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, low-income families, communities, and organizations.
- Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office products and the Internet and ability to acquire new computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, seek additional information and make necessary adjustments to achieve program goals.
- Ability to review, interpret and revise policies and procedures.
- Ability to embrace change positively and lead nursing teams effectively to navigate change.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and organize programs, use good judgement in independent decision-making and in seeking advice from management team and/or staff.
- Familiar with national trends and Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in maternal child health and home visitation.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) Indiana license in good standing required.
- Current CPR certification and ability to obtain CPR instructor certification within 1 year of hire.
- Familiarity and/or training in Motivational Interviewing.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working in public/community health, including 1 year in home visitation or home health.
- Master’s degree in nursing or health-related field preferred.
