Purpose or General Objective: To sort through textile in order to eliminate the storage of excess “unacceptable” product.
Essential Duties:
- Continually sort through donated textile, while separating “good” from “bad” product
- Correctly label carts and Gaylords as “SORTED”, “SEASONAL” or “BALE”
- Transfer carts and Gaylords to the appropriate staging area within the plant
- Weigh product as directed by supervisor
- Maintain a safe and orderly work environment
- Follow safety procedures and report injuries and safety hazards
- Maintain good housekeeping skills including sweeping and cleaning work area at the end of shift
- Maintain a level of processing performance of at least 4 carts, 6 Gaylords or any combination thereof per day
- Develop the ability to sort acceptable from unacceptable donations
- Ability to work productively without close supervision.
- Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with all employees, participants, customers and consumers working with and for Goodwill Industries.
Additional Duties:
- Other duties as assigned by the Charlotte Plant Supervisor, Transportation Supervisor, Operations Manager, Retail Director or Vice President of Retail and Donated Goods.
Physical Requirements:
- Have the ability to bend, reach and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Have the ability to carry, push, pull, otherwise move, and organize merchandise on a regular basis. May involve use of a pallet jack.
- Ability to obtain valid forklift license.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred
We are searching for someone dependable to join our team. As a Sorter you will go through donations from the community in order to eliminate the storage of excess "unacceptable" product. We then move acceptable product to our retail stores where we sell it in order to help people in that community and others in Central Michigan get work experience, job training, and other services.
We collect everything from furniture to clothing so you will be handling a wide variety of items every day, big and small, and need to be able to carry, lift, and move donations and feel comfortable handing donated items.
