The District Manager serves as the primary liaison between Goodwill’s headquarters and their designated district, overseeing operational practices, ensuring budget and sales targets are met, and fostering the growth of strong teams. They are responsible for ensuring that company policies and procedures are understood and implemented across all stores within their district. The District Manager’s primary objective is to motivate and direct store managers, holding them accountable for store performance. They oversee all aspects of district operations and are entrusted with maintaining the company’s brand while promoting the organization's culture and values within the retail stores they manage.

Role and Responsibilities :

  • Develops and executes strategies, action plans, staffing, and processes to optimize donation processing and drive sales growth.
  • Responsible for achieving key performance indicators across stores, including sizing, customer service, controllable contributions, sales, online sales, and retention.
  • Coaches and develops store leaders through effective mentoring and support.
  • Boosts employee morale through recognition programs and rewards.
  • Inspires and holds teams accountable for store operations, including scheduling, visual presentation, and inventory management to meet retail sales goals.
  • Ensures a safe, accident-free environment for customers and employees, maintaining compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
  • Cultivates a safety-conscious culture through education, training, and hazard reporting.
  • Builds a strong talent pipeline within the district.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with support departments such as Human Resources, Loss Prevention, and Finance.
  • Analyzes performance reports, conducts site visits, and considers customer / donor feedback to create sales plans that enhance store performance.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership in strategic planning and budget development.
  • Monitors expenses to ensure compliance with budget constraints.
  • Ensures proper merchandising and organization by adhering to established merchandising standards.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures for retail and donation environments.
  • Ensures productivity expectations are met to maximize revenue and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders to define store organization and visual presentation standards, optimizing product placement to achieve sales targets.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for customer service issues within the district and ensures timely responses to inquiries.
  • Builds relationships within the community, participating in events to increase visibility and donations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility :

This position oversees all retail staff within the assigned district.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of multi-unit retail management experience, with full profit and loss responsibility.
  • Self-motivated, highly engaged, organized, goal-oriented, and strategic in planning short- and long-term priorities.
  • In-depth understanding of both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record, liability insurance, and a reliable vehicle for work-related travel.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other computer software (Internet, POS systems, etc.).
  • Proven success in developing high-performing teams, including store leaders and staff.
  • Strong customer service and employee relations skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in budget development and management.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequent walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and speaking / hearing.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate stress levels.
  • Vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustments.
  • Dexterity to operate a telephone and keyboard.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds regularly, with or without reasonable accommodation.
