The Talent Development Manager is responsible for leading and managing talent development initiatives across the organization. This role oversees the Learning Management System (LMS), designs and delivers instructional content, and leads onboarding programs for Assistant Store Managers (ASMs) and General Managers (GMs). Additionally, the role ensures the successful execution of any Donated Goods Retail (DGR) training programs and manages a team responsible for conducting orientation for new hires. This position plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing learning strategies that support team member growth, operational excellence, and leadership development within the organization.
Role and Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop the Talent Development team.
- Manage all aspects of curriculum development programs to include, but not limited to technical skills, management and leadership development, safety for Donated Goods Retail (DGR)
- Manage and be responsive to the needs of team members who report to him / her; and to provide coaching and professional development guidance to direct reports on SMART Goals, competencies, and other relevant performance management metrics.
- Manage multiple / simultaneous program development projects using relevant tools, by prioritizing project deadlines. Track program development life cycles, ensures that any problems are addressed, escalated when necessary, and resolved quickly.
- Develop and formalize a robust quality assurance review process of all existing and new training programs.
- Establish a process to review and include feedback from end of course surveys into the quality assurance and course maintenance processes.
- Hold weekly 1x1 meetings with direct reports and develop SMART and professional development goals.
- Coach team members on best practices and work toward building an inclusive culture of shared respect and responsibility.
- Facilitate orientation and other professional development training sessions for the DGR.
- Oversee the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring content accuracy, system functionality, and user engagement. Continuously improve LMS utilization to enhance learning accessibility and effectiveness.
- Develop and implement engaging, learner-centered instructional materials and training programs tailored to business needs. Utilize best practices in instructional design and adult learning theories to optimize learning experiences.
- Design, execute, and continuously refine onboarding programs for Assistant Store Managers (ASMs) and General Managers (GMs) to accelerate time-to-productivity and align new leaders with company culture and expectations.
- Lead the strategy and execution of retail training programs, ensuring alignment with business goals and operational excellence. Partner with retail leaders to address skills gaps and deliver targeted learning solutions.
- Manage a team responsible for delivering comprehensive orientation programs that foster a positive onboarding experience and reinforce organizational values and expectations.
- Develop and implement career pathways and training workshops for Donated Goods Retail (DGR) team members, supporting their professional growth and long-term career advancement within the organization.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Talent Development Specialists. Conduct regular 1 : 1 meeting, provide coaching, and establish SMART goals to drive team performance.
- Track the effectiveness of training programs using data-driven insights, participant feedback, and performance metrics. Adjust programs as needed to maximize impact.
- Partner with key stakeholders, including Retail Operations, People Shared Services, and Talent Planning, to align training programs with broader organizational goals.
- Stay updated on industry trends, instructional technologies, and best practices to enhance talent development strategies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has supervisory / management responsibilities over a team of Talent Development Specialist.
