The Safety Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating occupational safety programs across Goodwill Central Texas to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries and illnesses while promoting a “safety first” culture.
Role and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Fire and Life Safety regulations, including building codes and emergency systems.
- Oversee Warehouse Safety protocols to minimize risks in high-traffic and storage environments.
- Implement and manage Hazard Communication programs (GHS compliance, SDS maintenance).
- Promote safe operation and training for Forklifts/Powered Industrial Trucks and enforce Ladder Safety practices.
- Ensure adherence to Fleet Safety and DOT Requirements, including driver qualification and vehicle inspections.
- Manage Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards, selection, and enforcement.
- Oversee Construction & Contractor Safety, including site-specific safety plans and permit-to-work systems.
- Develop and implement Industrial Ergonomics assessments and improvements.
- Ensure compliance with Machine Guarding and operational safety procedures.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) and risk assessments for tasks and work areas.
- Enforce Electrical Safety protocols and Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) programs.
- Manage Fall Protection programs and related training for elevated work.
- Maintain compliance with Bloodborne Pathogens and Exposure Control Plans.
- Assist with Emergency Management planning, drills, and Business Continuity operations.
- Lead Accident Investigations, determine root causes, and implement Corrective Actions.
- Maintain Incident Reporting and Recordkeeping in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Conduct Formal and On-the-Job Safety Training for employees at all levels.
- Perform Regular Safety Inspections across various locations in partnership with site leadership.
- Lead Incident Investigations alongside supervisors to identify causes and preventive measures.
- Facilitate Safety Program Implementation across multiple facilities.
- Drive compliance solutions and corrective actions in alignment with OSHA and other applicable standards.
- Support site staff in responding to alarms and emergency drills.
- Actively promote a “Safety First” culture through leadership, engagement, and communication.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- AAS/BS Degree in Occupational Safety or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
- Verifiable 3-5 years’ experience in the safety field.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910, NFPA standards.
- OSHA 30 Hour preferred or ability to obtain.
- Ability to track and synthesize large amounts of data proficiently.
- Ability to identify corrective actions and implement follow up assessments.
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and provide stellar customer service.
- Must possess robust organizational skills and the ability to anticipate stakeholder needs.
- Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
- Must possess strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Computer literate and have experience using Microsoft Office.
- Texas Driver’s License; current liability insurance, personal transportation, and a clear driving-record.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
- Regularly exposed to warehouse, construction, and industrial settings.
- May require occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs), climbing ladders, and working at heights.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required.
