What are the responsibilities and job description for the Literacy Job Coach position at GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF EAST TEXAS INC?
The incumbent in this position will provide GED Prep classes and job-specific training, support, and supervision to participants with barriers who work inside or outside of Goodwill Industries.
Ensure that individuals’ needs are met, goals are implemented, and a safe environment is maintained onsite. Duties include but are not limited to monitoring student progress, planning, and leading weekly classes, identifying and facilitating transition plans, providing training on proper work techniques and socialization skills, communicating participant progress and providing feedback, and providing structured intervention techniques and support to participants in a class or job training programs.
This individual will maintain case notes on the current system for each participant’s case worked daily; perform job coach duties in the absence of other job coach (s), including but not limited to: training consumers on various job duties/workplace policies and procedures/social skills/safe and efficient operation of equipment, etc.; performing Job Readiness Training; advocating for consumers in the workforce to promote successful relationships between employers and employees.

GED Prep:
- Collaborate and train (must complete a 15 hour-certification course) with the Literacy Council of Tyler
- Develops and teaches adult students in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and writing, which prepares them for the GED exams.
- Provides an effective learning environment for every student through well-prepared classes, relevant assignments, clear records of student progress, and support of academic achievement.
- Monitors and assesses student performance and progress through lessons, assignments, and tests.
- Manages classroom behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintains accurate and complete student intake documentation, attendance records, and achievement progress in the current database system.
- Provide access to onsite practice labs.
- Report to Director of Mission Services (Manager in absence)
Employment Services:
- The work schedule for a Job Coach (JC) is flexible and may change from week to week. Due to the nature of the job, it is not traditional Monday through Friday.
- JC is expected to meet with consumers during their scheduled job coaching hours.
- JC is expected to maintain professional documentation. All documentation must be proofread for spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
Documentation must be submitted to the ESC or Manager of Mission Services if ESC is unavailable for approval prior to being distributed to consumers and/or TWC counselors. Job Coach Logs are to be reviewed and approved before obtaining the consumer's signature.
When consumers are not present, the JC should be working on applications, building resumes, calling to check on consumers, etc. It is expected that the JC will communicate with the ESC for another assignment if they have any unexpected downtime.
It is expected that each JC maintain a level of professional courtesy to their counterparts. It is also expected that each JC communicates effectively with all Employment Services team members.
- JC is expected to maintain contact with the Employment Specialist (ES) regarding any tardiness, absences, problems/critical incidents/concerns regarding consumers or the training site.
- JC is expected to maintain program structure and outline, and coordinate with the ES any amendments to structure and outline to meet the needs of the consumers and/or employment site management.
- • JC is expected to submit Job Coaching Logs to the ESC by the last day of the month. These logs should be proofread for grammar, spelling, and content accuracy. The ESC will approve the Job Coach Logs and return them to the JC to obtain consumer signatures.
- JC is expected to participate in scheduled Employment Services meetings at a time/location designated by the ESC or Manager.
