Job Title: Community Support Specialist

SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the IDS Manager (LASR), conducts individual and/or group instruction and service provision to a caseload of participants in a facility or community-based setting, and facilitates implementation of services by outside agencies or qualified individuals in accordance with Long-Term Adult Supports and Resources Plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Confers with program participant, parents, social workers, and others in the support team to develop and implement Individual Plans. Maintains supports and services for goals within budget allotted.
Reviews plans quarterly to note progress and/or barriers towards goal achievement.
Creates and maintains confidential files of participants.
Develops and maintains network of community resources for the development and implementation of Individual Plans in the community.
Creates and/or coordinates learning materials or environments geared to meet the needs of each participant as identified in their Individual Plans.
Provides supports to program participants in the community.
Works with participants to increase motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning, continuous assessment of level of functioning, and continuous feedback to participants on all learning activities.
Facilitates or conducts excursions for participants in the community which are directly related to the new skills being sought by the participant through program services; including timely requisition of monies required for activities.
Works with parents/participants to accept and develop skills in working with participants’ disabilities.
Maintains good working relationships with participants, family members, funders, vendors, agency employees, and co-workers.
Assists with related special projects and LASR &or/IDS related tasks as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associates or Bachelor's degree (B.A.) and one year of related experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1-2 years related experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid driver's license and a traffic abstract that meet company guidelines. Must have access to an insured vehicle with valid registration and safety. Must be CPR/First Aid Certified. Required to have TB clearance. Must have clearance of Criminal History Record and Adult/Child Protective Services Central Registry checks that meet Goodwill’s standards.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
