Job Title:                      Truck Driver II (CDL)

SUMMARY:

 

Vehicle security is critical in compliance and operation of our document destruction business. Goodwill is fully committed to maintaining high standards of security and compliance in regard to our NAID Certification to properly operate and securely transport document destruction material. Driver position requires driving a GVW truck weighing 26,001 pounds or more and execute essential duties and responsibilities as outlined below.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

  • Responsible to represent Goodwill and our document destruction line of business in a positive, professional manner at all times. 
  • Required to uphold all security procedures confidentiality when interacting and servicing clients and customers. 
  • Driver is required to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with the confidentiality agreement when off duty. No discussion of company or client information. Any violation of this required standard will result in immediate termination and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
  • Required to maintain a professional appearance and hygiene; present a clean, well groomed, professional appearance. 
  • Required to be neatly attired with required uniform; company issued uniform and ID badge.  ID badge are required to be worn at all times while on duty. 
  • While servicing customers, drivers are required to be cordial and provide excellent customer service, however be cautious of interrupting or distracting client employees in a manner that could affect their operations. 
  • Drivers are responsible to ensure vehicle binders which include safety checks, registrations, insurance cards, and safety information are in the vehicle at all times.
  • Completes and maintains truck logs according to state and federal regulations.
  • Completes and maintains vehicle maintenance sheets by performing pre-trip inspections; immediately reports any unsafe conditions to the department lead or supervisor.

 

  • After route schedules and documents are received the assigned Driver and Supervisor on duty will oversee the process to securely load collection bins into the vehicle to prepare for the route.

 

  • Drivers are responsible for the overall security and confidentiality of destruction material during

pickup, transport, and transfer into the secure destruction area. 

 

  • Responsible to ensure vehicles cab, cargo area, and rear gate is secured and locked at all times when unattended. An enclosed vehicle is required to be used for material pickup and transport at all times.

 

  • Responsible to ensure bins being used for collection and transport must be locked at all times and never left unattended under any circumstance unless they are locked and secured in the vehicle.

 

  • Responsible to ensure locked bins used for transporting material are transferred directly into the document destruction area after completion of route. Under no circumstance, shall bins containing sensitive material be offloaded and staged in any other area except for the secure document destruction area. 

 

  • Responsible for the chain of custody documentation and processes which are required to maintain compliance. All assigned documentation must be completed accurately, correctly, and completely. 

 

  • Loads and unloads vehicle by using a hand truck or dolly as needed to maintain safety. 

 

  • Responsible for safely operating the lift gate when loading and unloading cargo. 

 

  • Loads vehicle, distributes weight evenly, forms compact load, and organize to effectively utilize cargo space.

 

  • Secures items and equipment on truck to prevent damage during transit. 

 

  • Required to effectively communicate internally and externally at all times while on duty.

 

  • Maintains phone or radio contact with lead or supervisor on duty to monitor route and problem solve any issues.

 

  • In case of emergency, notifies the office by phone immediately. Required to follow all company policies and procedures for handling emergencies while maintaining safety procedures at all times.

 

  • Observes vehicle operations policy including state and federal regulations.

 

  • Is knowledgeable and familiar with streets and locations on the island of Oahu. 

 

  • Operates other lift trucks and vehicles as required, if certified. 

 

  • Assists with keeping warehouse areas clean and neat. 

 

  • Conducts work in a safe and responsible manner, utilizing protective equipment (i.e. gloves, support belt, steel toed shoes) and/or equipment (i.e. hand truck, dolly) when appropriate. Complies with all safety standards. 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.  Must have excellent customer service skills.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  

 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read map coordinates and follow instructions.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Must have a valid driver's license (CDL B).  Must have a traffic abstract that meets company guidelines, pass a DOT physical, functional capacity exam, and be at least 21 years of age.   Must retain HDL and DOT medical card on their person at all time when working.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift up to 50lbs and maneuver wheeled containers weighing up to 300 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
