Job Description
 
Under direction of the Communicable Disease (CD) Manager, performs highly advanced (senior-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Acts as a subject matter expert in emerging and reemerging diseases and coordinates the collection, organization, analysis, and preparation of materials in response to requests for information and reports. Supports outbreak response activities for respiratory illness in congregate settings that may be COVID-19 associated and the enhancement of electronic integrated disease surveillance systems. Electronic data exchange of core public health data (e.g., syndromic surveillance, and other peripheral systems like integration engines or vocabulary services) used for the surveillance of COVID-19 and other pathogens. Addresses public health questions posed by Epidemiologists, Disease Intervention Specialists, Public Health Nurses, Public Health, and Prevention Specialist, as well as others regarding principles, practices and procedures related to disease testing, surveillance, intervention, investigations, and studies. Assists management with developing and implanting effective techniques for revaluation CD program and providing guidance to staff in the development and integration of new methods and procedures.

General Qualification Guidelines, Experience and Education - Must Have
Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Must have a Master's degree (MPH, MSPH) or equivalent degree in a relevant field. 
PhD (or DrPH) in public health, chemistry/biochemistry, health sciences, or related field preferred. 
Candidate must have experience in public health, health policy, infections disease surveillance or related field. 
 
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the practice of public health, epidemiologic investigations, public health surveillance, disease intervention, investigations, and studies.
  • Knowledge of immunizations, zoonoses, HIV/STD and tuberculosis programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health principles and surveillance techniques.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology used in laboratory and medical reports.
  • Knowledge of research techniques, statistical methods, information reporting and quality assurance.
 
           
Required Abilities and Skills
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively verbally and in writing. As well as design, analyze, and prepare reports.
- Ability to interpret laboratory findings, physical signs/symptoms, and diagnostic test results      from medical charts.
- Ability to approach problems where no protocol exists, in a logical manner and proactive      manner.
- Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to gather, assemble, correlate, and analyze facts.
- Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to work discretely and maintain confidentiality.
-Skill in using word processing, database spreadsheets, and other software packages (e.g., Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Skill developing, training, and disseminating presentations clearly and concisely.
- Skill in writing and editing as well as mathematical computation and statistical analysis.
- Skill in training and making public presentations.
 
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, up to 25 lbs.
